The Chicago Bears announced this afternoon that they’ve activated defensive lineman Shemar Turner from the PUP list, which is good timing since they’ll be without Montez Sweat for the next two games.
Turner, a second-round selection of the Bears in 2025, has been working his way back from a torn ACL suffered in October of last season. He played just six games for the Bears in 2025 before the injury, logged six tackles and zero sacks in limited snaps, with 74 snaps on defense and one on special teams. Turner’s return helps because Chicago needs a body. What Turner will provide, or what his workload will look like, remains to be seen. Regardless, they’ll be without Montez Sweat, who the NFL hit with a two-game suspension this afternoon for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy. Sweat will be eligible to return to the team following their Week 7 matchup with New England. First thought: how are you juicing and still logging goose eggs in the box score against a rookie right tackle? Sweat hasn’t been very good all season, but his performance in Green Bay was especially forgettable. Beyond that, the personnel issues continue for Chicago, who will now be down Sweat, and potentially Dayo Odeyingbo, who’s been their most productive defensive lineman this season. Odeyingbo left Sunday’s loss to Green Bay with a quad injury, and while we’ve gotten no updates on his status so far, it could keep him out for a few weeks. If so, the Bears’ pass rush will go from bad to really bad quickly.
