2025 SI Winter Age Group Championships
Dec. 19-21, 2025 Oceanside, California SCY (25 years) ResultsBoth Addison Hou and Lars Vaa went into the Christmas break with additional first-place medals to add to their respective trophy cases following the boys’ competition at the 2025 SI Winter Age Group Championships.
A 14-year-old from Pacific Swim, Hou won five individual events, setting personal best times in all of them.
In three events, Hou swam better than his previous personal bests that were set roughly a week earlier at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships – West. He clocked a time of 56.27 to win the 100 breast (57.00 was his previous best), won the 200 breast in 2:02.93 (2:03.33 was his previous best) and the 200 IM in 1:51.28 (topping his previous best of 1:51.67).
Hou also won two other events in personal best times, taking the 200 fly in 1:54.26 (1:57.35 was his previous personal best) and 400 IM in 3:59.86 (smashing his old personal best of 4:06.31).
Vaa, an 11-year-old from the Sierra Marlins Swim Team, won six events, five in personal best times. He won the 50 free in 26.89, the 100 free in 58.57 (beating his old best of 59.51), the 200 free in 2:06.15 (2:06.84 was his old best), the 100 back in 1:06.99, and the 50 fly in 29.22, all in personal best times. He also won the 100 IM in 1:08.99.
Other individual standouts:
Darmen Yessengeldy, an 18-year-old Cal commit from Rancho San Dieguito, swam a personal best time of 1:46.90 to win the boys’ 200 back. His previous best was 1:48.56. In the girls’ competition, 14-year-old Chloe Yoon of Rancho San Dieguito captured five events. She swam personal best times to win the 50 free (24.41), 50 fly (26.00), 100 fly (55.99) and 200 IM (2:10.01). Yoon also topped the field in the 200 fly (2:09.97). Another 14-year-old in the girls’ event from Rancho San Dieguito, Claire O’Mara, won four events. She was first in the 50 back (26.57), 50 breast (31.27) and 100 breast (1:07.15), all oil personal best times. O’Mara also won the 400 IM in 4:33.17. Sammy Walseth, a 13-year-old from Rancho San Dieguito, was first in five events. She swam personal best times to win the 100 free (52.12) and 200 back (2:05.64), while also capturing the 200 free (1:52.62), 500 free (5:03.53) and the 1000 free (10:34.77).Girls’ Team Standings — Top 5
