Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Levi Skaistis and Tristan McCain, both seniors at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School and teammates at Hill Country Aquatics in Austin, Texas, are headed to New York City to swim and study at Columbia University in the class of 2030. They will join fellow commits Braeden Valenzuela, Krish Jain, and Kyle Li next fall.

    Levi Skaistis

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Columbia University, where I will continue my academic and athletic journey! A huge thank you to all my teammates, friends, swim coaches, and family for always supporting me and making swimming and life so much fun. I also want to thank Coach Jim and Coach Gustavo for giving me this amazing opportunity. Go Lions! ”

Skaistis specializes in breaststroke and IM. At the Southwest Preparatory Conference Championships last February, he won the 200 IM (1:51.20) and 100 breast (55.68) and teamed up with McCain on the 200 medley relay (25.46 breast split) and 400 free relay (46.94 leadoff), both of which came in 1st place.

This fall, just after moving from Longhorn Aquatics to Hill Country, he improved his SCY lifetime bests in the 50 back, 50 breast, 50 fly, and 100 IM. At Winter Juniors West, he finaled in the 100 breast (16th) and 200 breast (13th), notching PBs of 54.71 and 1:59.08, respectively. He also competed in the 200 IM, coming just short of his best time (1:50.77 from last December, when he also went 3:59.97 in the 400 IM).

In long-course season, he had a big meet at Austin Sectionals in July, taking home new PBs in the 50 free (25.72), 100 back (1:01.89), 200 back (2:13.67), 100 breast (1:06.45), and 200 breast (2:23.66). He concluded the summer at Junior Nationals, where he lowered his PB in the 100 breast (1:05.20) and added a lifetime best in the 50 breast (29.88).

Skaistis’ best 100/200 breast and 400 IM times would have scored in the ‘C’ finals at the 2025 Ivy League Men’s Championships. It took 1:47.49 to get a second swim in the 200 IM.

    Best SCY times:

    200 breast – 1:59.08 100 breast – 54.71 200 IM – 1:50.77 400 IM – 3:59.97

    Tristan McCain

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Columbia University! I’d like to thank my family, friends, teammates, Coach Mike, Coach Steve, and Coach Carolyn. I couldn’t have done it without y’all. I’d also like to thank the faculty and staff at St. Stephens’s for helping me every step of the way. Lastly, l’d like to thank Coach Jim and Coach Gustavo for giving me this incredible opportunity. Go Lions! ”

McCain specializes in distance freestyle. As a junior last year, he won both the 200 free (1:39.24) and 500 free (4:34.23) and contributed splits of 22.71 butterfly and 46.70 freestyle to the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays. He competed at both Justin and Austin Sectionals in March, hitting PBs of 4:27.44 in the 500 at the former and 9:12.96 in the 1000 at the latter. At 2025 Winter Juniors West, he dropped those times down to 4:25.87/9:11.31. He placed 21st in the 500, 15th in the 1000, and 22nd in the 1650 (15:32.69). His best mile time comes from the same meet a year ago, when he clocked in at 15:20.78.

This summer, McCain updated his LCM times in the 200 back (2:13.16) and 100 fly (59.00) at Austin Sectionals. He competed at Junior Nationals in Irvine, placing 19th in the 400 free, 16th in the 800, and 17th in the 1500. He left Irvine with PBs in all three events (3:58.80/8:14.60/15:47.66).

McCain’s best times would have scored points for Columbia at the 2025 Ivy League Men’s Championships in the 1000 free (15th) and 1650 free (12th). While the Ivy League women got rid of the 1000 free in 2024, the men continue to sponsor the event at the men’s conference championships. It took 4:25.44 to get a second swim in the 500.

    Best SCY times:

    1650 free – 15:20.78 1000 free – 9:11.31 500 free – 4:25.87
