Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Violet Rutter from Los Gatos, California, has announced her intention to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin beginning in the 2028-29 school year. She confirmed to SwimSwam:

“I’m so excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin! I would like to thank you my parents and my sisters for always believing in me and pushing me to be the best version of myself, Coach Kevin for knowing me better than I know myself, Coach Joey for being my hypeman, and everybody who has supported me throughout this journey. (Thank you Tere!) I would also like to thank Coaches Jack, Ted, Jennah, Johno, and Beata for providing me with this amazing opportunity. Go Badgers!”

Rutter is a junior at Archbishop Mitty High School. She swims year-round with Santa Clara Swim Club and specializes in distance free, fly, and IM. In high school swimming, she was runner-up in the 200 free (1:49.28) and 3rd in the 500 free (4:56.03) as a sophomore at the 2026 North Coast Section Championships; she also anchored Mitty’s winning 200 medley and 400 free relays (23.09/50.98). At the California CIF State Championship a week later, she placed 4th in the 200 free (1:49.02) and 10th in the 500 (4:52.94), and she anchored the state-champion 200 medley relay (23.17) and 7th-place 400 free relay (49.94).

Earlier in the season, she unleashed a torrent of PBs at Roseville Sectionals. There, she finished 4th in the 200 free (1:48.83, PB), 4th in the 500 free (4:54.61 in prelims, PB), 1st in the 1000 free (9:54.88, PB), 2nd in the 1650 free (16:45.38, PB), 6th in the 200 fly (2:02.02, PB), and 6th in the 400 IM (4:23.69, PB. Those were all improvements on the lifetime bests she had set two months earlier at Winter Juniors West: 200 free (1:49.74), 1000 free (10:09.24), 1650 free (16:52.00), and 200 fly (2:02.52).

At 2026 Open Water Nationals, Rutter placed top 10 in the 3k knockout and earned a spot on USA Swimming’s 2026-2027 National Junior Team.

Rutter wrapped the 2026 long course season with strong performances in Irvine. At U.S. Nationals, she clocked PBs in the 400 free (4:18.65, 36th place), 800 free (8:53.73, 26th place), and 1500 free (17:03.26, 22nd place). A week later, she hit new lifetime bests of 57.60 in the 100 free, 2:02.80 in the 200 free, 4:16.96 in the 400 free, 8:51.87 in the 800 free, and 2:15.85 in the 200 fly. She placed 4th in the 400 free, 10th in the 200 free, and 20th in the 200 fly.
