After breaking a stretch of over 20 years without releasing a new album, classic rock band 38 Special (known for such hits as "Hold on Loosely" and "Caught up in You") has some more big news for fans: A 2026 North American tour.
As Ultimate Classic Rock reported, the band will be heading out on the road in February in support of their recently released album Milestone (the group's first since 2004's Drivetrain).
Of course, it's worth noting that the only remaining member from the band's most famous lineup is frontman Don Barnes, who co-founded the group with Donnie Van Zant in 1974.
Among the performers and cowriters on Milestone are Randy Bachman, Train's Pat Monahan and Survivor co-founder Jim Peterik, a longtime collaborator who produced the album.
Along with releasing Milestone, 38 Special also toured in 2025 with fellow iconic rock bands Kansas and Jefferson Starship.
'Milestone' celebrates 38 Special's 50th anniversary
As American Songwriter reported, Milestone — which includes nine new original songs — was co-written by Barnes and Peterik and honors 38 Special's 50th anniversary.
Barnes admitted to having reservations about the “daunting” project at first.
“It was not like anybody’s beating the door down for a new 38 Special record, but we have a lot of rabid fans out there,” he said.
Barnes and Peterik got a little help writing the album's lead single, "All I Haven't Said," from Barnes' wife, Christine.
“She was in the kitchen," Barnes explained. "I was sitting in a dining room chair, playing some major 7th [chord], just kind of strumming...random chords. And she came around the corner and said, ‘That sounds like that should be called 'All I Haven’t Said,' just a title, this, like, beautiful title.”
The 2026 38 Special tour kicks off on Feb. 6 in Peoria, Ill., and will stop in locations including Georgia, South Dakota, Florida, Louisiana and Texas. Tickets are available on the band's official web site.
