Kevin James Shines as Hopeless Romantic in Solo Mio Rom-Com Trailer

Kevin James steps into one of his most compelling roles yet for his upcoming rom-com, Solo Mio.

In the trailer exclusively obtained by Us Weekly, James, 60, portrays a man named Matt whose fiancée leaves him at the altar.

“She was just here, and then she wasn’t,” a wedding guest tells Matt of his runaway bride as a devastating look forms on his face.

His fiancée writes him a note explaining why she decided to walk away from their relationship as well as her discarded engagement ring, leaving him heartbroken as he attempts to navigate single life.

“By the time you get this, I will be gone. Please don’t try to find me. There is a lot I need to work out for myself,” the note reads in part.

Despite his split, Matt decides to embark on his planned Italian honeymoon alone after some encouragement from a friendly hotel concierge. “I think we both know things didn’t go too well today,” Matt tells the desk clerk in one scene after the wedding goes awry, to which the man replies, “If I was in this position, I would enjoy the package myself.”

A montage of clips of Matt’s vacation shows him going rowboating, grabbing ice cream, bike riding and dining alone, but it’s apparent that he’s feeling a little bit lost. He goes out to a club with his new friends and is approached by a woman named Claudia, but it’s clear she’s not the person Matt needs in his life while he’s still healing from heartbreak.

Amid his solo adventure, Matt makes a few friends along the way, including Nicole Grimaudo’s Gia, who works at a local café. It’s clear that they have some kind of connection straight away, but is Matt’s breakup still too fresh for him to move on quickly?

“She’s the only woman I’ve ever loved. But I can’t start over again,” Matt tells Gia in the trailer, to which she responds, “You have to try. Don’t be afraid.”

Their chemistry is undeniable as they continue to spend time together, as Matt asks her out to a concert because he has an extra ticket, and she kisses him on the cheek. “It’s not hard. Don’t be weird,” Gia remarks after the kiss. Another clip shows Matt and Gia riding together on a motorcycle, getting the approval of the hotel concierge in the form of a smile as they drive by the property.

As his trip winds down, Matt is faced with the ultimate decision — go back to his old life or start anew.

“It’s beautiful, I have to come back sometime,” Matt tells Gia, and she pleads, “Don’t leave. Stay.”

It’s impossible not to root for Matt as he finds himself and a potential new flame on his journey, which highlights James’ dynamic acting skills.

Alyson Hannigan, Kim Coates, Jonathan Roumie, Julee Cerda, Julie Ann Emery and Alessandro Carbonara round out the cast. Roumie, 51, is spotlighted in the trailer as quirky Neil, who cheers Matt on as he explores the country’s beautiful sites and lively culture.

Solo Mio premieres in theaters on February 6.
