The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a massive blow along the offensive line on Tuesday when star tackle Lane Johnson officially announced his retirement from the NFL after a legendary 14-year career.
The perennial Pro Bowler started the first 3 games of the season at his usual right tackle position for the Eagles, but was unexpectedly ruled out before kickoff in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams for an undisclosed reason.
In a post on his personal X account thanking the fans and organization, Johnson laid out his decision to officially hang up his cleats, saying that he wanted to try to finish out one final season, but he realized his family and personal mental health were the bigger priority.

He broke through during his senior season in 2012, earning second-team All-Big 12 and third-team All-American honors as the starting left tackle for the 10-3 Sooners.
The Eagles selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, and Johnson rewarded that decision by becoming one of the league’s best tackles for over a decade. He spent his entire career in Philly, earning 6 Pro Bowl nods, 2 First-Team All-Pro selections, 3 Second-Team All-Pro selections, and anchoring the offensive line for 2 separate Super Bowl-winning teams.
Nobody has embodied what it means to be an Eagle like Lane Johnson has over the past 14 years, and his legendary career will almost certainly earn him a bust in Canton in the near future.
