There is a giant parking lot that separates the road from the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, and for the first time since the music venue opened in 1990, if you want to park there, it’s going to cost you.
Live Nation, which operates the outdoor music theater once known as the World Music Theater and the Tweeter Center announced the change this week.
“During the off season, we are making upgrades to the venue and our operations just like we do every year. We look forward to welcoming fans for the 2026 summer concert season and showing them the major investments we are making in the venue experience.”
That experience that will now require a parking pass in addition to a ticket, and those parking passes will be on the pricey side, causing consternation among fans.
On its website, Live Nation quotes prices ranging from $59 in its “Gold Parking Lot” to $204 in its “EZ Out Parking Lot.
For those who have become accustomed to free parking, the announcement comes as a disappointment.
Annie, Tinley Park resident who wanted NBC Chicago to use only her first name, said she thinks the new charges are “just ridiculous.”
“You are already paying a lot for the tickets, and this is another charge that people who just want to see the music can’t handle,” she said.
Annie said she will now think twice about purchasing tickets for shows at the venue.
On social media, thousands of concert fans have already weighed in. Many of them complained not only about the additional charge, but also the venue’s unpaved lots and lack of staff to help direct parkers to their places.
In the past, cars destined for the amphitheater have contributed to area congestion problems. In 2023, NBC Chicago reported on fans who missed a Janet Jackson concert because they were stuck in traffic.
Live Nation says parking passes will be required to use venue parking starting in 2026. The Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre is a summer venue, and the first big concert there is scheduled for June of 2026.
