With this time, he handily beat his own best time of 50.91 and Liam Tancock’s supersuited British national record of 50.14.
The record does not come as a surprise, given that the 22-year-old has brought Tancock’s long course 100 back record by .6 in the past two years. Nonetheless, it’s a statement swim for prelims, and it’s faster than anyone else in the field has been this season so far.
