For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Samantha Fenstermaker has verbally committed to swim and study at the United States Naval Academy as a member of the Class of 2031. She confirmed the decision in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I am so honored to announce my verbal commitment to advance my athletic and academic career at the United States Naval Academy! I am beyond grateful for Coach Mo, Coach Carlye, and Coach Clay for giving me this incredible opportunity. I also want to give a huge thank you to my family, coaches, and friends for supporting me throughout my journey and helping me reach this milestone in my life. Lastly, I’m grateful to God for opening this door and leading me toward a path of service, purpose, and something bigger than myself. I can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings. GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!!!

Top SCY Times:
50 Freestyle: 23.51 100 Freestyle: 51.78 100 Butterfly: 56.83Fenstermaker is from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where she attends Hilton Head Preparatory School and trains year-round with Hilton Head Aquatics. She’s a sprint freestyle specialist who is also strong in the 100 butterfly.
The high school junior has qualified for the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) A/AA State Championship each year of her high school career. As a freshman, she won both the 50 free (24.57) and 100 free (53.94). As a sophomore, she defended her 50 free title with a winning time of 24.31 and opted to swim the 100 fly instead of the 100 free, claiming victory in 58.85. She also contributed to Hilton Head’s wins in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay, splitting 26.75 on fly in the former and leading off the latter in 53.56.
Just last month, she repeated as champion in all four events. She clocked a personal-best 23.51 to win the 50 free and took the 100 fly in 58.04. On relays, she clocked a 26.27 fly split on the 200 medley relay and equaled her lifetime-best 51.78 leading off the 400 free relay.
Beyond her recent state meet success, Fenstermaker’s steady progression makes her an excellent pick-up for Navy. Over the past three seasons, she’s improved from 24.79 to 23.51 in the 50 free, 53.94 to 51.78 in the 100 free, and 59.83 to 56.83 in the 100 fly—dropping time consistently year after year.
A Division I Mid-Major program, Navy competes in the Patriot League, with the women’s team winning their 13th straight conference title at the 2025 Patriot League Championships.
The Navy and Army swimming teams have a longstanding rivalry in the pool, which has historically seen the Midshipmen come out on top. The Navy women’s 35-year dual meet winning streak was broken last December, when Army beat the Midshipmen 169-131.
Based on the results from the 2025 conference meet, Fenstermaker’s best times would have put her in the ‘B’ final of the 50 free and ‘C’ finals of the 100 free and 100 fly. On Navy’s 2024-25 depth chart, Fenstermaker would have ranked fifth in the 50 free, eighth in the 100 free, and 10th in the 100 fly. With two full seasons remaining before she joins the team, Fenstermaker is poised to become one of Navy’s top-scoring swimmers.
Set to join Fenstermaker in Navy’s Class of 2031 is 54.4/2:04.5 butterflier Savannah Duffy and distance specialists Chloe Gustin and Alicia Czosnyka.
