Sonora, CA – The Sonora Police Department (SPD) reports that an alleged thief fleeing one Sonora store dropped stolen items while fleeing to another retailer across the street, resulting in two arrests.
An SPD officer recently on patrol at the Walmart store in the Crossroads Shopping Center along Sanguinetti Road in Sonora spotted a familiar Dodge Dakota pickup in the parking lot, where store employees indicated they had found paraphernalia along the bushes before. The officer then saw 26-year-old Jordan Moore of Sonora walking towards the truck with several packages. When the officer approached him, Moore took off on foot but lost sight of him. While fleeing, Moore dropped several items in their original packaging behind, according to SPD spokesperson Michael DaRosa, who detailed, “The items consisted of a Patriot 425 crossbow, a Killer Instinct crossbow scope, a Huffy bicycle, a hoverboard, a bike rack, an electric tire inflation pump box, and an Ozark Trail hiking backpack, all worth approximately $1,265.81.”
A few minutes later, another officer located the truck across the street in the Lowe’s parking lot with Moore in the front passenger seat. DaRosa added that officers found him with “a melted and used tooter straw with a residue, soon determined to be fentanyl.”
SPD K-9 Ridge was dispatched to sniff the pickup and detected the presence of drugs, prompting a search. Officers discovered a pipe with white residue, determined to be methamphetamine.
During further questioning, Moore admitted to stealing the items from Walmart. He was arrested for felony grand theft and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.
