Legendary actors Timothy Hutton and Judd Hirsch reunited to honor their Ordinary People director Robert Redford, who died in September.
Hutton, 65, and Hirsch, 90, starred in Redford‘s groundbreaking 1980 film Ordinary People, which also featured Mary Tyler Moore and Donald Sutherland. Hutton played a grief-stricken teen from a wealthy family who was recently released from a psychiatric hospital after a suicide attempt following the drowning death of his older brother, Buck. Hirsch played the therapist who connects with Hutton and helps him stop blaming himself for his brother's death.
While Hirsch was already known for his role as beloved taxi driver Alex Rieger on the sitcomTaxi when he took on the role in Ordinary People, Hutton was a relative unknown. He went on to win the Academy Award for his performance and subsequently starred in several other projects, including the popular television series Leverage. Hutton Honored Robert Redford
Following the news of Redford’s death back in September, Hutton spoke about the effect the legendary star had on him.
“To a nineteen-year-old who was just learning to find their way, Robert Redford held quite a light,” Hutton told the New York Times following Redford’s death. “This is a very big loss to me and all who loved him.” He continued by calling Redford a “deeply thoughtful person who moved through every moment with enormous care and piercing perception.”

In an odd twist, the beautiful home featured in Ordinary People went on sale for $7.49 million just a day before Redford died, Crain’s Chicago Business reported. The Georgian mansion, located in the luxe Chicago suburb of Lake Forest, measures 7,700 square feet and has extravagant features, including a limestone entryway and a billiards room.
Hutton’s Lengthy Legal Battle Finally Ended
Last year, Hutton’s lengthy legal battle with Leverage producers finally concluded. The actor had previously sued them for breach of contract, claiming he was unfairly omitted from participating in the reboot of the series after he was accused of a 1983 sexual assault in Canada, Deadline reported. The claim was eventually dismissed by prosecutors.
