Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Jacob Hershberg has announced his commitment to continue both his education and swimming career at Towson University, where he will join the team in the fall of 2026.
Hershberg confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:
I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment of swimming D1 at Towson University! I would like to thank my family, teammates and coaches that have supported me throughout my journey. I’d also like to thank Coach Tony and Coach Bosse for giving me this opportunity. Go Tigers!
Hershberg is from Slingerlands, New York, where he attends Bethlehem High School and trains year-round with the Delmar Dolfins. He did not compete for his high school team during his sophomore and junior years, focusing instead on club competition with the Delmar Dolfins. He plans to return to the Bethlehem varsity team for his senior season.
The future Tiger is a backstroke specialist who owns best times of 49.81 and 1:48.81 in the 100 and 200, while his third-best event is the 100 butterfly, in which he’s been as quick as 51.36.
His sophomore year, 2023–24, brought major drops as he went from 52.60 to 50.69 in the 100 back, 1:54.17 to 1:50.02 in the 200 back, and 53.52 to 51.48 in the 100 fly. He carried that momentum into the 2024–25 season, lowering his times to 49.81, 1:48.81, and 51.36 in those events.
Hershberg’s target meet for the season was the Speedo Sectionals at the end of March, where he produced his current best times in his main events. He made a pair of ‘A’ finals in the backstrokes, touching fifth in the 200 and seventh in the 100, with both swims marking the first time he broke the 50-second and 1:50 barriers in the events. He missed out on a second swim in the 100 fly, as he touched the wall 40th during prelims.

The program is currently under the direction of head coach Anthony Bruno, who took the reins in June of 2022. The men finished fourth out of six teams at the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association Championships.
Hershberg will be a valuable addition to Towson’s roster in both backstroke events. His lifetime bests in both events would have ranked second on the team’s depth chart for the 2024–25 season, while his top time in the 100 fly would have placed him 10th. Junior Sean Colson led the team in the backstroke events with times of 47.29 and 1:42.48. He will have graduated by the time Hershberg arrives on campus, which could position Hershberg as the team’s top backstroker, depending on the development of the current roster.
At the 2025 CAA Championships, Hershberg’s best times in the backstrokes put him in scoring range. It took times of 49.86 and 1:49.42 to make the top 16 and score, and his current PBs would have situated him 15th after prelims and into the ‘B’ finals. A time of 49.25 was required to get a second swim in the 100 fly.
Hershberg joins Adam Kaczmark as the only publicized commits in the Towson men’s recruiting class of 2026.
