Game of the Week: Roosevelt looks to keep rolling against defending champ

Hear that rumbling sound?

The exact source of it is two-fold, and the Roosevelt football team is very much the culprit.

The Rough Riders’ vaunted run game is making plenty of noise, as of late.

And the month of November — when the bulk of the postseason takes place — is rapidly approaching, and that’s when Roosevelt is often its most boisterous.

Yet, at 7 p.m. Thursday in Johnstown, the Rough Riders will be greeted by a foe that is very capable of silencing the most unruly of adversaries.

Roosevelt (5-3 overall, 2-1 3A North 1 League) — which sits fifth in CHSAA’s Class 3A Selection and Seeding Index — will play host to ninth-ranked defending state champion Thompson Valley (7-1, 3-0) in what should be a pivotal late-October clash.

The Eagles have won five consecutive games since falling 24-0 to Timnath on Sept. 22.

They’ve built their momentum largely with an airtight defense, allowing just seven points per game during their win streak.

Thompson Valley’s stingy defense will be well tested.

The Rough Riders have won back-to-back games since suffering a rare two-game losing streak, against elite competition, about a month ago.

They scored 95 total points in those past two games.

A week ago, in a 41-6 road win against Severance, Roosevelt racked up 385 rushing yards with senior Milo Pascual leading the way with 238 yards and a touchdown on 22 totes.

With the 3A playoffs beginning in just two weeks, neither team has any intention of surrendering momentum at this point.
