A LESSER-visited area in France has been named a top trending holiday destination – with people saying its like walking through a fairytale land.
The region of Corrèze has had a spike in popularity in the past year, according to a new study.
According to Hotels.com, searches for ‘Corrèze’ have increased 145 percent between 2024 and 2025.
The region is known for having six of the country’s most beautiful villages that Travel + Leisure said is like ‘traipsing through a fairy tale’ from Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne to Collonges-la-Rouge.
The others are Curemonte, Saint-Robert, Ségur-le-Chateau and Turenne.
Here is what you need to know about each of them.
Collonges-la-Rouge
The village of Collonges-la-Rouge is known for its dark red brick buildings – hence its name.
One visitor on Tripadvisor described the village as having a “fairytale red sandstone castles”.
Dotted around the village are 25 turrets, cobbled streets and pretty houses draped in wisteria.
Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne
Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne has been described by one visitor as a “picture-perfect village”.
It has pretty waterfront houses that sit by the Dordogne River, and the villages aren’t usually visited by tourists either.
Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne also benefits from a mild microclimate so it has lots of sunshine and milder temperatures than other areas, which is why its nicknamed ‘the Limousin Riviera’.
The village is also known for its strawberry production, which is celebrated with a large annual festival.

Curemonte

This is because it has three castles, three churches, and three fountains – which is a lot for a village with just 200 residents.
The castles with both rounded and square towers sit high up in the Dordogne valley, all are still privately owned and not open to the public.
But you can still take some incredible pictures of them and the countryside views.
Saint-Robert
Saint-Robert is a rural village that sits on a hill on the borders between the Corrèze and the Dordogne.
In the village you’ll find medieval stone houses and noble houses, so you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Ségur-le-Chateau on a peninsula formed by a loop in the Auvézère River and the village surrounds the 12th century ruined castle.
Throughout it are narrow streets with half-timbered houses and medieval turrets as well as a riverside square shaded by huge chestnut trees.
Turenne
Turenne is a village that Visit Dordogne Valley calls ‘a place frozen in time and history’ and has avoided being plagued by tourists.
The centre of the village is pedestrian-only, and the paths lead up the ruined castle on the hill.
Brive–Souillac Airport is the closest to Corrèze, you can currently fly there with Ryanair.
But flights to Brive will be cancelled by Ryanair by the end of October.
By rail, take the Eurostar from London St Pancras International to Paris, and then connect to a TGV train to Corrèze which typically requires two changes.
Or take the ferry to cross the Channel and drive through France to reach Corrèze – but this will take just under eight hours.
