Around the NFL: Maxx Crosby Leaves Raiders Facility, Backup Bowl, Eberflus In Trouble, More

As the Las Vegas Raiders (2-13) prepare for their Week 17 matchup with the New York Giants (2-13) that will likely decide which team picks first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, news surfaced today that Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby was told he will be shut down for the final two games of the season. According to FOX’s Jay Glazer, Crosby wasn’t happy about the decision.

Maxx Crosby Leaves Raiders Facility Following News That His Season Is Over

According to Glazer, Crosby—who has been nursing a knee injury much of the year—was told by the team that they intend to shut him down for the season. Crosby “vehemently” disagreed with the team’s decision and has reportedly left the team facility.

Scoopage: Raiders told Maxx Crosby they want to shut him down last two games. Crosby, who has played with injuries for much of the year, vehemently disagreed and has left the building @nflonfox has learned. This could lead to questions on his future in Vegas

News of Vegas’ decision to put Crosby on the shelf ahead of their Week 17 matchup with the Giants follows their decision to place tight end Brock Bowers on IR earlier this week.

When asked earlier this week about the draft implications that come with their week’s matchup, Crosby made it clear he’s not concerned with that dynamic. “Yeah, I don’t give a sh*t about the pick. I don’t play for that. My job is to be the best defensive end in the world,” Crosby told reporters from his locker at the team’s training facility in Henderson.

While Crosby may not care, it’s apparent—based on the Raiders’ personnel decisions this week—that they do. Vegas is currently slotted to pick second in the NFL Draft in April, and flipping positions with the Giants will allow them to have their pick of the quarterbacks in the draft class after a failed experiment with veteran Geno Smith under center this season.

As for Crosby’s future, he’s long remained steadfast in his desire to be a Raider for his entire career. Still, every player has a breaking point, and this feels like the first time outside noise about Crosby’s future has even a sliver of validity.

Jordan Love Out; Lamar Jackson Doubtful For Week 17 Matchup at Lambeau Field

From the ‘Toilet Bowl’ to the ‘Backup Bowl,’ with news this afternoon that Packers quarterback Jordan Love has been ruled out with a concussion—suffered last week in a loss to Chicago—for Green Bay’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Backup quarterback Malik Willis will start for the Packers on Saturday.

On the other sideline, Lamar Jackson has been sidelined all week with a back injury suffered in the Ravens’ loss to the New England Patriots in Week 16. He is carrying a doubtful designation into the weekend, with the odds leaning toward backup Tyler Huntley getting the start in place of Jackson.

Both teams are still fighting for playoff life and seeding this weekend. The Packers have clinched a playoff berth thanks to a Lions loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas, but a loss this week to Baltimore would result in the Chicago Bears clinching the NFC North.

That scenario would relegate the Packers to a wild card spot, likely the seventh seed, and a matchup with whoever finishes second in the NFC playoff race. The Ravens are still alive, mathematically, but have to win out and hope for some help from the Cleveland Browns (with a win over the Steelers).

Jerry Jones All But Confirms Matt Eberflus Is Coaching His Final Games in Dallas

If Jerry Jones was trying to be subtle, he didn’t succeed. Another Friday radio hit, another round of quotes that make it feel inevitable Matt Eberflus won’t be the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator beyond Week 18. At this point, keeping him would be the surprise.

Fresh off a 30–23 win over the Commanders, Jones opened his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan sounding upbeat — until he was asked directly whether he was pleased with the defensive scheme and the staff running it. His answer wasn’t vague. It wasn’t diplomatic. It was a hard stop.

“No. No. Not at all,” Jones said. “We have a lot of work to do there… No. Not at all. We got a lot of work to do over there.”

That’s about as close as an owner gets to sending the moving truck early.

Jones reiterated that he won’t make a staff change with two games left, but he’s no longer hiding his dissatisfaction. The Cowboys’ defense is statistically the worst in football. Thirty points allowed per game, 377 yards surrendered weekly, and opposing quarterbacks posting a video-game-level 109.7 passer rating with 33 passing touchdowns against them. That’s not a slump — that’s a structural collapse.

And for a team with one of the league’s best offenses, it’s the reason Dallas is missing the playoffs for a second straight year.

Even when Jones tried to reflect on how close the Cowboys are to being one of the NFL’s top contenders, his mind went straight to rock bottom: the Week 14 loss to Detroit. Dallas entered riding the momentum of a three-game win streak and a blockbuster trade for All-Pro DT Quinnen Williams. And then the Lions shredded them, 44–30. Detroit’s lost every game since.

“The loss against Detroit was a surprise to me,” Jones said. “I thought we had turned the corner defensively.”

They didn’t. And now it’s nearly impossible to imagine a scenario in which Dallas runs this coaching setup in 2026. Eberflus’ exit isn’t official yet — but Jerry Jones is talking like the decision is already written in ink.
