Ariel Winter Reveals Surprising Way She Learned About Modern Family Co-Stars Wedding

The cast of Modern Family has remained close after the show ended in 2020, and Ariel Winter revealed how she learned about co-star Eric Stonestreet's wedding in a surprising way.

While speaking to People in an interview published on Thursday, October 2, Winter, 27, shared that she learned Stonestreet, 54, married his longtime love, Lindsay Schweitzer, in their Modern Family group chat.

"We literally have a group chat going right now, and he sent us all - he didn't tell us that they were doing that. They, like, invited just their close friends and family at their house where they are. Like, literally, I think they had maybe 10 people there," Winter said of the wedding. "And they, like, invited them over for something and just did that. Came out and got married."

Winter continued, "It was very sweet. And then they just sent us the pictures in the group chat, and it was really sweet, and, of course, we congratulated them."

Stonestreet appeared on the sitcom as Cam Tucker, while Winter appeared as his niece Alex Dunphy. The show was a fan favorite and ran on ABC from 2009 until 2020.

He made sure to tell his Modern Family co-stars about his wedding before he announced the big news via Instagram on September 8. "It’s my birthday and guess what I got," Stonestreet wrote alongside photos from the wedding.

Shortly after Stonestreet shared he was officially a married man, several social media users took to the comments section to congratulate the newlyweds. "I am so so so happy for you both!! You both look stunning!! Love you both!!!!" one person wrote, while another added, "Awesomeness!!! Congratulations!!! And bonus, you’ll never forget your anniversary!!"

Meanwhile, the actor behind Stonestreet's onscreen husband on Modern Family, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, wrote, "Of all second marriages, this one is my favorite! I love you both! I'm so happy for you!!!!"

Winter also gushed about the newlyweds while speaking to the outlet. "I love them," she said. "Eric and Lindsay are absolutely incredible. She's so wonderful. She's been a part of our family really for a long time, and I'm just so happy for them because she's awesome. So I'm so happy that they made that happen."

The couple officially wed four years after they announced their engagement in August 2021. Alongside a handful of Instagram photos that showed Stonestreet making silly faces as Schweitzer, 46, showed off her ring, he wrote, "She said, 'She’d have her people call my people.”'

Prior to their wedding, Stonestreet told People that they planned to get married at his Kansas City home. "Well, I've said we're building a house to host a wedding, and we're still on track to do that," he said in a July interview. "We're almost done with the house, and that's been our plan all along."

"We got engaged and then all of a sudden got an opportunity to build a house, and I thought, no better way to start a relationship than literally building a foundation," Stonestreet added of the timing. "So that's our plan and we're still on track for that."
