The Miami Dolphins have finally won a game, but at what cost?
Despite pulling out a 27-21 victory over the New York Jets, the Dolphins’ first dub of the 2025 NFL season was vastly overshadowed by a gruesome leg injury to their star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill.
With 13:21 left in the third quarter, with Miami leading 10-3, after making a catch near the sideline, Hill’s knee became badly twisted after planting his leg and then being tackled out of bounds by Jets defensive back Malachi Moore.
An air cast was placed on the 31-year-old’s leg before being transported off the field via cart, where he was bizarrely seen cheering, clapping, joking, and was even picked up by the cameras screaming “Yes!”
Initially diagnosed with a dislocated knee, once off the field, Hill was seen in a wheelchair as he was taken to hospital for further examination to discover the extent of his injuries.
He had recorded six catches for 67 yards before he went down hurt.
With an injury as gruesome as the one Hill sustained, social media was sent into a frenzy with fans reacting to what they saw, with some believing that he went down under a dirty play.
“Man that Tyreek Hill video need to come with a warning,” one fan posted to X (formerly Twitter).
“The league has to do something about these cowards taking out peoples knees all the damn time,” one angry fan wrote. “Every year we get one or two of these horrible knee/leg injuries.”
“Tyreek Hill had his leg snapped like a Lego, but Twitter don’t take anything seriously, so the memes are going crazy,” a third user wrote.
Others were more supportive, with a fourth fan posting: “Cheetah just hit a speed bump. He’ll be back soon. ”
Hill’s former teammate when with the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, even posted to X with three simple words: “Prayers up man….. ”

Running back De’Von Achane fell one yard shy of eclipsing three-digit yards, recording 99 yards and a touchdown from 20 carries to ensure the Dolphins overcame their division rivals, and ensure they remain winless on the season.
Hill in ‘good spirits’ despite ‘terrible experience’
In the immediate aftermath of the game, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel – who stripped Hill of team captaincy this season – reported that despite his pain, their star receiver was only focused on the team.
“He was probably in the best spirits of any player that I’ve ever seen (have) such a terrible experience,” McDaniel said. “He immediately had wide eyes and was talking, ‘I’m good, just make sure the guys get this win.’ He was focused on the team.”
Hill had come under fire at the end of last season after essentially quitting on the team after failing to reach 1,000 yards for the first time since 2019.
Nonetheless, he had reportedly rebuilt the bridges that he had burned to the ground over the summer, with McDaniel praising his veteran.
Hill had a team-leading 67 yards before suffering his injury in the third quarterGetty Mike McDaniel now has to contend with the monumental loss of one of his star receiversGetty“We’ve talked a lot about all the stuff that Tyreek has done this offseason and a big portion is to lead by example and connecting with his teammates,” McDaniel said.
“He kind of utilized that connectivity to make sure that his team was finishing on the right end. He was inspiring in that situation, and I think his teammates benefited from that.”
A five-time All Pro receiver, Hill was a member of the Chiefs for six seasons, and was instrumental in their 2019 Super Bowl victory.
Since entering the league in 2017, he has 11,363 receiving yards – the most in the NFL since his arrival. His 83 touchdown catches are the third-most in the league in that span, behind Davante Adams (102) and Mike Evans (91.)
After the dust had settled on the game, Hill’s former teammate Terron Armstead, who retired at the end of the 2024 season, posted an update to X after having spoken with the injured star.
“I just got a FaceTime call from my brother @cheetah ,” Armstead wrote. “First thing he said “man I’m just happy we got that win”!!
“He’s in good spirits and said he was laughing through the pain, to avoid passing out!! crazy! Praying for best news possible and speedy recovery! ”
Hill’s season is all but over, but the severity of the damage sustained to his knee remains to be seen.
