Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Chattanooga, Tennessee’s Collin Holgerson has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee for the 2027-28 school year and beyond. He told SwimSwam,
“I am honored to announce my commitment to continue both my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee. I would like to sincerely thank Coach Kredich and the entire coaching staff at Tennessee for giving me this opportunity. A huge thanks to my coaches, Jordan, Stan, and Zane for guiding me throughout the past years and this process. I would also like to thank my family, teammates, and friends for their constant support. I am grateful for the opportunity to join such an amazing program and look forward to representing the Volunteers. Go Vols! ”
Holgerson, who attends McCallie School in Chattanooga but represents SwimAtlanta in club swimming, is our #4 recruit on the Way Too Early list of the top boys’ swimmers in the high school class of 2027.
Holgerson is an incredibly versatile talent. He is the fastest 100 breaststroker in the cohort but also ranks second in the 100 back. He represented Team USA at this summer’s 10th World Aquatics Junior Championships and made it to the semi-finals of the 100 backstroke. He also swam the leadoff backstroke leg on the medley relay.
As a sophomore at the 2025 TISCA Championships, he won Tennessee state titles in the 200 IM (1:46.13) and 100 breast (52.94), earning PBs in both events. He also led off the medley relay with a lifetime-best 21.70 and split 19.82 on the 200 free relay. Two weeks later, he clocked PBs in the 50 free (20.62) and 200 free (1:39.53) at the Southeastern LSC Championships.
Holgerson threw down PBs of 46.87 in the 100 back and 1:43.34 in the 200 back, winning both events at SwimAtlanta’s Best of the South. He also notched a lifetime best of 47.58 in the 100 fly to place 2nd.
Holgerson opened what was to be an outstanding long-course season with a slew of best times at U.S. Nationals. Those included the 50 back (26.34), 100 back (55.56), 200 back (2:04.22), 50 breast (28.57), and 100 breast (1:03.83). He bookended that performance with 5 more PBs at Ocala Futures at the end of the summer, before heading off to Otopeni, Romania, for World Juniors. In Ocala, he won the 50 back (25.64), 200 back (1:59.45), and 100 breast (1:02.02), all with best times. He also set new PBs in the 50 breast (28.45, 3rd place) and 100 fly (55.41, 17th place).
In the last year, he has improved his SCY 100 back by 1.86 seconds, his 100 breast by 1.9 seconds, his 200 IM by 4 seconds, and his 200 back by 4.2 seconds. (He also clipped 7.3 seconds off his previous PB in the 200 free but he hadn’t swum it since 2022.) This summer, he dropped 2.6 seconds in the LCM 100 back and 3.3 in the 200 back.
Best SCY times:
100 back – 46.87 200 back – 1:43.34 100 breast – 52.94 200 breast – 1:59.44 100 fly – 47.58 200 IM – 1:46.13 50 free – 20.62Holgerson’s 100 breast time would have ranked 3rd in the Vols’ lineup last season; only Kevin Houseman (51.48) and Jed Garner (52.40) broke 53 seconds. He’d have been 4th in the 200 breast, 5th in the 200 back, and 7th in the 100 back. He would have scored in the ‘C’ final of the 100 breast and he’s not far off in his other events. It took 46.75 in the 100 back, 1:42.96 in the 200 back, 1:56.19 in the 200 breast, and 46.78 in the 100 fly to get second swims at the conference meet last year.
