Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Singapore native Ries Joos has verbally committed to the admission process* at Princeton University for 2028-29. He told SwimSwam:

“I am incredibly honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process for Princeton University, where I will be continuing my academic and athletic career! Thank you to my family and friends for your unmatched support through this whole journey. An enormous thank you to my parents for sacrificing so much for me and helping me get to this point. Thank you to the ATS community, and to every club that has welcomed me over the years, for guiding me in the pool and making me a better person outside of it. A huge thanks to Coach Marcus for believing in me more than I believed in myself at times, and for being with me every step of the way. Finally, I want to express my deepest gratitude to Coach Matt, Coach Mia, Coach Zach, and the rest of the Princeton staff for this incredible opportunity and for their faith in my potential. Go Tigers! ”

A junior at the Singapore American School, Joos trains year-round with Aquatech Swimming Club and specializes in mid-distance freestyle. He represents Belgium in international competition, and was in Germany this summer at the 2026 European Junior Championships. He competed in the 200 free individual event and swam legs on Belgium’s 4×100 free and 4×200 free relays, swimming both heats and finals on the 4×200.

Last November, Joos won the 400 free at the 11th Singapore National Short Course Championships, clocking a lifetime best 3:51.37. He also placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:47.89, PB) and 5th in the 100 free (50.41, PB). A month later, he attended USA Swimming’s Winter Juniors West, representing Glenbrook Swim Club, and swam the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, and 400 IM. In March, he competed at the Singapore National Age Group Championships (50m), where he won the 200 free and 400 free and notched PBs in the 50 free (24.51), 100 free (52.11), 200 free (1:50.88), and 400 free (3:56.71).

Two months later he was in Antwerp at the 2026 Open Belgian Championships (50m). There, he placed 5th in the 400 free, 7th in the 200 free, and 15th in the 100 free. After European Junior Championships, he came to U.S. Junior National Championships in Irvine, this time attached to Alto Swim Club. He swam the 100/200/400/800 free and contributed to 3 ALTO relays, and he finaled in the 200 free (24th) and 400 free (19th).

In August, Joos ended the summer at the Singapore National Invitational (25m), coming in 4th in the 100 free, 4th in the 200 free, and 2nd in the 400 free.

    Best LCM times (converted):

    200 free – 1:50.88 (1:37.00) 400 free – 3:56.71 (4:25.22)

His best converted times would have scored in the ‘C’ finals of the 200 free and 500 free at the 2026 Ivy League Men’s Championships.

*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
