The 2025 Ryder Cup is officially up and running.
It’s been a long two years of back-and-fourth talk since Tommy Fleetwood claimed the winning point for Team Europe in Rome two years ago.
But now the 45th edition of golf’s greatest event is underway as Europe look to beat their American rivals once more, this time in New York.
With matches and action coming thick and fast over the next few days, talkSPORT.com is here to round up all the latest news you may have missed in our ‘Unrestricted’ series….
Mac attack
USA fans have laid into Europe’s star players early at Bethpage Black.
As the all-star team tournament got underway at 7am on Friday morning, the home fans were ready and waiting to give some grief to the visiting team.
Rory McIlroy coped it first as chants of ‘F*** you, Rory’ accompanied the current Masters champion being shown on the giant screen to the right of first tee.
Robert MacIntyre then came in for some stick with fans berating him with yells of ‘have you ever been for a run’ and ‘where’s the cardio’.
Brad to the bone
And it was USA captain Keegan Bradley who looked to get the home fans riled up with an X-rated address at 5:30am.
Fans rushed through the gates to take a seat in the mammoth first tee grandstands and once it had filled up, Bradley took to the mic to welcome them in.
And the American skipper turned the air blue before the sun had even risen.
Stalking around the first tee box, he said: “Hello guys.
“Anyone ready to watch a lot of golf out here. I’m going to need everyone on their feet and ready to go, you guys ready? Let’s f****** go boys!”

Bradley looked to fire up the home fans earlyGettyWeasley does it
Oliver Phelps, who played George Weasley in the Harry Potter film franchise, was part of the Celebrity All-Star match on Wednesday and has been in attendance today too.
talkSPORT.com caught up with the actor who is staying at the same New York hotel as both teams.
Giving his prediction, Phelps said: “I think Europe win by three, I really do, I’m saying it now. They seem like such a well oiled machine and just ready to go.
“One thing I did notice was Keegan Bradley on the first tee box, he looked petrified. Maybe that’s because he’s put his heart and soul into it but maybe that’ll leak into the USA team, I don’t know.
“Where I’m staying this week, both the teams are staying there as well so you see all the guys walking around and that’s really surreal.
“Scottie Scheffler was there with his little one just chilling, I was like ‘this is insane’.
“I was in the lift before coming here and Bobby MacIntyre just got in with his stuff. I was like ‘good luck today man’ and he was just like ‘yeah’.
“These guys spend so much time together [on the PGA Tour] that around the hotel there’s no ‘us and them’, it’s all cordial.”
Not fit for TV?
The early television coverage for the 2025 Ryder Cup has been slammed by fans.
Viewers of the highly-anticipated event have complained about missed shots, bad audio and too many adverts.
One fan wrote: “So far the TV coverage sucks for the Ryder Cup. Missing shots and the sound and video are off. Too many commercials. Peacock should have done multiple streams.”
Another said: “You look forward to the Ryder Cup so much and with only 2 matches on the course TV coverage has missed 3 shots already . Ridiculous stuff really.”
A third added: “Not that I should be surprised, but man this Ryder Cup TV Coverage sucks. NBC going to commercial break every two shots.”
And another summed it up: “Ryder cup worst tv coverage of all time? How are we not seeing every shot.”
Wood love it
Chris Wood, who played in Europe’s defeat in the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine, is confident the current team have what it takes to deal with whatever comes their way and win across the Atlantic.
He told talkSPORT: “It’s the strongest European team for a long time.
“At most Ryder Cups, a lot is made about rookies, particularly from a European perspective.
“But most of our guys play in the States now anyway, and we’ve got one rookie in our team in Rasmus Hojgaard, and his twin brother played in Rome.
“So it’s an experienced European team and I think they’ll be able to handle all that side of things, anything that comes their way on the course.”
MacIntyre is looking to star for Europe in New YorkGetty‘That makes the Ryder Cup’
Daniel Van Otterdijk, the Chief Communications Officer of DP World, has explained the unique logistical challenge that the Ryder Cup brings as the event heads to Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027.
Speaking to talkSPORT.com at Bethpage Black, Van Otterdijk said: “I think the Ryder Cup from a fan’s perspective is unique, right?
“The noise, the crowds, many people have said it feels more like a Premier League football crowd than it does a very traditional golf crowd that you would get at, say, The Open or The Masters, for example.
“So it’s a very different type of atmosphere. It’s more boisterous, a lot more noise and that’s great. That makes the Ryder Cup, it’s unique for the Ryder Cup.
“So in order to create that fan facility that allows fans to get close to the players, to get close to the action throughout the 18 holes, it means there’s a unique design and obviously a unique atmosphere you try to create.
“For example, on the first hole, very much a cauldron type stand. There’s obviously a lot of corporate hospitality along the 17th and 18th and the first.
“So it’s a different setup, if you like, and it requires a lot of effort to bring in all the scaffolding, the stands, the various structures that support the hospitality zones and all the various brand elements that go on to make that a unique feel.
“So there’s a lot of work that has to go into it.”
DP World are a proud partner of the Ryder Cup and help to make it happen, along with their involvement in the DP World Tour and golf worldwide.
