Chicago Bears Injury Report: C.J. Gardner-Johnson is Back in Action

The first installment of the Chicago Bears injury report ahead of the team’s NFC Divisional Round playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Rams is out. And the release comes with some good news, specifically regarding the status of the team’s key defensive backs.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. Gardner-Johnson spent last week in concussion protocol and did not play in the team’s wild-card weekend win against the Green Bay Packers. Considering how banged up Chicago’s defense was during that win against Green Bay, CJGJ’s return to practice is a welcome sight.

Since joining the team in Week 9, Gardner-Johnson has played on 87.1 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. He has collected two interceptions, 35 solo tackles, five quarterback hits, five tackles-for-loss, and three sacks. It hasn’t always been pretty, but it has been fun to watch at times. If he can put together two more full-go practices on the Bears injury report updates that will come Thursday and Friday, I’ll feel good about what he could bring to the table when the Rams come to town on Sunday.

And here are some additional notes:

The return of C.J. Gardner-Johnson looms large with fellow cornerback Nick McCloud appearing on the Bears injury report as a non-participant in the walk-through because of a groin injury. Wide receivers DJ Moore (knee) and Rome Odunze (foot) were listed as limited participants. Both players started last week’s practice session as limited before becoming a full-go last Friday. I imagine the powers that be at Halas Hall will manage their top receivers in a similar fashion ahead of this week’s playoff matchup against the Rams.

HOW THE BEARS DEFENSE FLIPPED THE SCRIPT ON THE PACKERS

These four players were full participants on Wednesday’s Bears injury report: Offensive lineman Braxton Jones (knee), linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga (concussion), and defensive lineman Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (concussion). It is nice to see three role players come out of concussion protocol and be a full-go. Ogbongbemiga and Tryon-Shoyinka won’t be atop anyone’s scouting report, but all depth help is welcome in all-hands-on-deck situations like the ones that present themselves during playoff weeks. Getting Ogbongbemiga back is notable when you consider that special teams ace and reserve linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin (back) was limited on Wednesday. It sure is nice not seeing Kyler Gordon’s name on the Bears injury report. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images

There are two more Bears injury report posts left this week. Hopefully, we will continue to see some good news on that front:
