Moses Itauma has second fight offer rejected with frontrunner ‘not interested’

The hunt for Moses Itauma’s next opponent has taken yet another twist.

Itauma is slated to return to action on December 13 in Manchester, but finding a dance partner is proving difficult.

Frank Warren revealed to talkSPORT earlier this month that Filip Hrgovic had rejected the fight, after his son and Itauma’s manager, Francis, suggested the Croatian was his client’s preferred opponent.

“He’s been offered that fight, Hrgovic,” Warren told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan.

“There’s two ways to say you don’t want the fight: you either say you don’t want the fight or you want a trillion pounds for it.”

Itauma’s woes don’t stop there, though, as the youngster’s trainer Ben Davison claims the initial frontrunner, Jermaine Franklin, is also ‘not interested’.

“Those are the two on everybody’s lips,” told Sky Sports of fights with Hrgovic and Franklin.

“They’re not interested, and it’s the same for pretty much all of them, so it’s difficult.

“It’s difficult to get these opponents at this moment in time. They’re not interested; they don’t want to play ball.

“They just want so much money to box him; it’s hard to get the opponents.

“The next fight, if we can pull something off and get somebody like that, we’re all for that.

“That’s what we’re after, the same as everybody else.

“But if not, I suppose we’ll have to drop down a level and try again in the new year, maybe.”

Why was Jermaine Franklin linked with Moses Itauma?

Franklin was identified as a perfect opponent for Itauma due to his durability.

Itauma’s handlers are keen for their man to get more rounds under his belt before stepping up in levels, and Franklin has shown to have a solid chin by taking Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua the distance.

‘The 989 Assassin’ ended a 14-month hiatus to defeat Ivan Dychko in a nip-and-tuck affair on the Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez undercard two weeks ago.

Before that fight, he expressed a willingness to face Itauma, but it now appears he has priced himself out of negotiations.

“Right now, I’m not thinking about it,” Franklin told BoxNation.

“I’m focused on what’s in front of me, but right now, I’ll let you know, I’m far from a test for anybody,

“So if you want to get f**ked up, you can bring it.

“If the money’s right, we can talk about it.”
