‘I’ll stick with Brock Lesnar’ – Frederic Vosgrone on Paddy Pimblett comparisons and using European stardom to reach UFC

Frederic Vosgrone is embracing his parallels to MMA’s elite ahead of his return at Oktagon 76.

The 29-year-old German, who went viral for his persistence in dragging Jorick Montagnac to the canvas on his Oktagon debut in May, has received widespread comparisons to UFC‘s past and present stars, such as Brock Lesnar, Dricus du Plessis, and Paddy Pimblett, ahead of his fifth professional fight.

Vosgrone went viral in the MMA world following his performance at Oktagon 68 in April, when he submitted Montagnac in the second roundOktagon MMA The German has honed in on his comparisons to the likes of Lesnar and Pimblett to leverage his career in the popular MMA promotionOktagon MMA

‘The Neanderthal’ faces Brazil’s Fabio Moraes on a stacked Frankfurt card on Saturday night, with most, if not all, of Oktagon fans expecting nothing more than a convincing win from the fan-favourite fighter.

Vosgrone, in fact, has already had his next fight booked in Europe’s £200 million MMA promotion, with Oktagon bosses expecting their newly-found star to return to the cage for their Cologne card on October 18.

He no doubt has the backing of his promoters and those around him, but, right now, Vosgrone is letting members of the MMA fraternity boost his prominence in the sport through those quirky comparisons.

Frederic Vosgrone ‘cool’ with Paddy Pimblett and Brock Lesnar comparisons

“The Paddy Pimblett thing goes back a long time,” Vosgrone told talkSPORT.com in Frankfurt ahead of his light heavyweight co-main event.

“Many years ago, when I competed on the UK grappling scene, I remember Paddy Pimblett posting a picture of me on Instagram because people messaged him saying that I looked like him.

“But that was before he had his breakthrough… Obviously, it’s great to be named in the same sentence as one of the biggest stars now.

“And Brock Lesnar, too. I remember in Brazil when I was training there as a purple belt, many years ago they would always call me Brock Lesnar. It’s a pretty cool comparison.

“Brock Lesnar is much scarier than Paddy Pimblett, so I’ll stick with Brock Lesnar.”

Vosgrone, a natural grappler in the cage, started his MMA career at Levels Fight League and We Love MMA before signing with Oktagon in 2025.

He has finished all four of his pro bouts via submission inside the distance.

Pimblett is one of the biggest UFC stars right now, having caught the attention of MMA fans early due to his unique personality and hairGetty Lesnar, a former UFC heavyweight champion, fought just nine times in Dana White’s promotion but left his stamp as one of the company’s most feared fighters of all timeGetty

The Dusseldorf native added that he only sees benefits in being compared to the biggest names in MMA, even if it is purely based on his looks for now.

“In general, appearance definitely helps” Vosgrone said.

“It wasn’t planned. I looked like this for quite some time, so it took the people some time to notice.

“But I guess it plays a big part, and obviously, if you have people online talking about that you look similar and stuff, it helps. It’s pretty cool. I’m not complaining.”

Through a victory at Oktagon 76 on Saturday night, Vosgrone is aiming to broaden his exposure in the MMA world, especially in the UK.

Vosgrone said his Pimblett comparisons were never planned, but he is nonetheless leaning in on the parallels to better his journey to MMA’s summitOktagon MMA
