The 49ers wrapped up their final practice of the week ahead of Sunday night’s showdown with the Bears, and the headline is easy: George Kittle still hasn’t taken the field. For the third straight day, the All-Pro tight end remained sidelined with the ankle injury he suffered Monday night — and now his status for Week 17 is officially in doubt.
San Francisco GM John Lynch didn’t sugarcoat the uncertainty during a Friday radio appearance, admitting the 49ers will take Kittle’s availability “right up to game day.”
“Is he going to get there? We don’t know… George is the type of player that you probably give him that latitude,” Lynch said, essentially signaling a true game-time decision.

The good news for San Francisco is that second-year receiver Ricky Pearsall was back on the field again Friday. After missing last week and Monday night’s game, Pearsall appears to be trending toward returning — something the 49ers may desperately need if Kittle can’t go.
Cornerback Renardo Green, who missed Week 16 with a neck injury, was also spotted during the session. While he’s officially listed as out, his return to practice offers at least a glimmer of progress.
On the defensive front, the 49ers looked more stable. Yetur Gross-Matos (knee), Sam Okuayinonu (ankle), and Tatum Bethune (ankle) all participated, giving San Francisco needed depth for a unit that will face one of the league’s hottest quarterbacks in Caleb Williams.
