Bears Rookies Continue to Impress NFL Insiders, Experts, and Analysts

One of the things that makes this Chicago Bears team different than others we have covered is that this group has received immediate contributions from its rookies. Not every Bears team gets draft picks to chip in throughout the year, so I am not one who will take these efforts for granted. From first-round pick Colston Loveland to seventh-round selection Kyle Monangai and several young players in between, there is a lot to like about what the 2025 NFL Draft class of Bears rookies have provided to this point of the season.

Chicago Bears Top Rookie Performers in 2025

A look at the Bears’ best rookies and what some NFL pundits are saying about them…

    TIGHT END COLSTON LOVELAND

Pro Football Focus has Bears tight end Colston Loveland with the third-best grade among rookies through the first 16 weeks of the 2025 NFL season. Only New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (80.5) and Buffalo Bills tight end Jackson Hawes (86.6) have better overall grades than the 79.4 Loveland has produced through 16 weeks.

WHO WILL THE BEARS TAKE IN THE 2026 NFL DRAFT?

Loveland has 42 catches, 528 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. His 6-foot-6-inch, 241-pound frame has been a welcome addition to Chicago’s offense. After a slow start, the University of Michigan product has gained the trust of quarterback Caleb Williams. Chicago’s QB1 has a 123.3 passer rating when targeting Loveland this season. That’ll play!

Rookie second-round pick Luther Burden III has the eighth-highest grade among PFF’s rookies. The 76.0 grade is the second best number among rookie receivers. Only Carolina Panthers first-round wideout Tetairoa McMillan (79.2) has better marks. Burden, who missed the Bears’ Week 16 win against the Packers, was a full-go at Friday’s practice at Halas Hall and is lined up to return to the field for the team’s Sunday Night Football showdown against the San Francisco 49ers.

    OFFENSIVE TACKLE OZZY TRAPILO

Bears rookie offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo earned a 79.5 grade from Pro Football Focus for his efforts in the team’s Week 16 win against the Green Bay Packers. And with it, comes a spot on PFF’s Week 16 Rookie Team of the Week. This is what PFF’s Jim Wyman had to say about the Boston College product’s outstanding week against the rival Packers:

Trapilo finally started seeing consistent playing time in Week 12, and he’s been a revelation protecting Caleb Williams’ blind side. Saturday’s win over the Packers was his best performance since taking over the starting job, allowing just three pressures on 42 pass-blocking snaps for a 72.0 grade. He was even better blocking for the run, posting a career-high 82.9 figure that included 84.4 on 10 outside zone runs.

Following the Bears left tackle situation has been a journey this season. It began with Braxton Jones beginning the year in the starting lineup, only to be benched for second-year undrafted free-agent signing Theo Benedet. The Canadian Eagle was playing admirably before an injury pushed him out of the lineup for Chicago’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That is when Trapilo showed up and put up the team’s best grade for his play against Pittsburgh. Since then, Trapilo has been the team’s starting left tackle — a gig he doesn’t seem likely to give up at this point.

For what it’s worth, Ozzy Trapilo’s 68.7 overall grade (38th among 83 OTs) and 69.0 pass blocking grde (41st of 83 OTs) puts him in a respectable place as a rookie. I am totally on board with seeing this through with Trapilo as Chicago’s top left tackle option. He is certainly playing his way into locking in a long-term starting spot should he continue to keep this up down the stretch and into the playoffs.

    RUNNING BACK KYLE MONANGAI

I’m so glad that Kyle Monangai won his second Angry Runs Scepter of the year:

Kyle Monangai has been a draft steal. He has 731 rushing yards, five touchdowns, and now two Angry Runs Scepters this season. Not bad for a player who is in a timeshare with fellow running back D’Andre Swift. My favorite part about this Angry Runs award is that it came after Monangai caught a pass. The hands have been questionable at times this season, but there is no doubting Monangai’s running prowess. I think the Rutgers product could win that award every week. But that would be unfair to the other players.
