Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 4, Pirates 1 – September 16, 2025

That was a stellar game from the Cubs across the board. Brilliant pitching, and a lot of offense (no, not a lot of RUNS, but keep in mind whom the Cubs were facing).

Cade Horton just keeps doing it, start after start. He is going to come in, he’s going to throw strikes, and he’s going to let you try to beat him. Which, in the second half, teams simply cannot do. It’s almost scary at this point. The only limiting factor in his performances is the ones the Cubs have (understandably) artificially created for him.

The only reason Horton isn’t the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game for this one is because Michael Busch had a monster night leading off for the Cubs. That scorcher continues.

Multi-hit nights also for Nico Hoerner, Moises Ballesteros, Carson Kelly, and Dansby Swanson. The Cubs left a whopping 13 on base, which obviously ain’t good, but it speaks to how they were constantly getting guys on base. And, again, given whom they were facing to start the game, it seems unreasonable not to be impressed.

Also, maybe the Cubs should just keep facing Paul Skenes as often as possible? Because they perform against him unlike any other team in baseball.
