The game-tying shot in the 8th inning and then the walk-off hit in the 10th. Pretty nice day for Carson Kelly, and nice to finally be back on this side of a walk-off win.

The Cubs trailed 6-1 relatively early in this one, but managed to come all the way back. A clutch double from Dansby Swanson was key. Ian Happ homered again. Just some tremendous bullpen performances to help make it happen, too, including three strong innings from new Cubs swingman (apparently), Aaron Civale.

Whew. What a win. I’m feeling really good all of a sudden!

On the one hand, Colin Rea wasn’t at his best. On the other hand, he wasn’t getting a lot of defensive help today (unlike Aaron Civale, holy crap, PCA), and didn’t let things get so completely out of hand that the bats didn’t have a chance to come back.

Kyle Tucker had a particular bad defensive game in right field, which has been a disappointing/surprising trend for big chucks of this season. Depending on your preferred metric, Tucker could be headed for the worst defensive season of his career. Not what he’d want in a walk year, given the total-package-value he theoretically brings. I kinda don’t want to be thinking about this right now after a game like that, though. More tomorrow, probably.

Back to the offense. How great was it to see them actually putting some things together to pressure the other team? To make a five-run lead seem unsafe? Needed to see that again. Need to see more of it, frankly.

Do I even have to say who the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game is?
