United looked destined to drop points at home to relegation favourites Burnley when a late shirt tug on Amad Diallo gifted them a spot kick at the death.
United twice gave up the lead against the newly-promoted outfit as more defensive problems reared their head.
A Josh Cullen own goal had put the hosts ahead on the 27 minute mark, but the excitement was short lived inside Old Trafford.
That’s because just a few minutes later new signing Matheus Cunha was substituted off with an injury.
Things got even worse when Lyle Foster levelled the scored in the second half for Burnley.
United immediately hit back, with Bryan Mbeumo making up for his mid-week penalty miss by scoring in open play less than two minutes after Foster’s goal.
But Burnley got one over on Amorim’s side again, equalising once more on the 66th minute mark through Jaidon Anthony.
