A peaceful Christmas featuring a walk back from church, a trip to my pops (where I think he enjoyed the batch of peanut butter blossom cookies I made him), and a night watching Return of the Jedi (dueling red and green lightsabers makes it a Christmas movie to me!) really hit the mark. Plus, I didn’t have to argue with anyone about the Bears or quarterback Caleb Williams. I hope your day was as wonderful as mine. Happy Friday, friends.
I got a hearty chuckle reading Brett’s BN Cubs Bullets this morning. Because while Brett was dreaming about players needing to bull the ball in the air to unlock their power potential, I was dreaming about fielding a question from a friend about the Bears’ upcoming offseason. It felt realistic, too. Especially when I initially declined to discuss it because I’d rather talk about the good team that is on the field now. However, I succumbed by answering with my desire to see this team do to the defensive line this offseason what was done to the offensive line last offseason. No pressure, guys.EPISODE NO. 14 OF THE BLEACHER NATION BEARS PODCAST IS OUT: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
Another week, another turnover forced by Nahshon Wright ?@nahwrig | @progressive pic.twitter.com/JZOkqWZotm
— NFL (@NFL) December 24, 2025 There is a decent chane Wright makes it as a Pro Bowl alternate. But he should not have had to wait for that chance to get his moment in the sun. It would be nice to see him pick off a Brock Purdy pass (or two) on Sunday Night Football to drive home how bad of a snub it was to leave him off the all-star roster.MORE: Meet the 2026 Chicago Bears Pro Bowlers
The good news is that the Detroit Lions have been eliminated from the playoff race. But I suppose the bad news here is that Detroit has nothing to play for in Week 18 when it travels to Soldier Field to face the Bears in the regular-season finale. I still want that to be a get-back game for Head Coach Ben Johnson, his staff, and the players who were walloped in Week 2 at Ford Field. I can’t believe the Detroit Lions were eliminated from postseason contention by Max Brosmer and the Minnesota Vikings:Max Brosmer is the only NFL QB in the Super Bowl era to play the entire game and finish with under 70 passing yards and 7+ sacks and yet still win. pic.twitter.com/PAJ71v695X
— OptaSTATS (@OptaSTATS) December 26, 2025 Here’s hoping you’re seeing what is happening with the Lions and appreciating what you have right now with the Bears because NFL windows open fast and close even faster. The Lions loss locked the Green Bay Packers into a playoff spot. We could be lining things up for Bears-Packers Episode III. Get your popcorn ready for that one if that is how the cookie crumbles. The Christmas slate of NFL games were mostly a dud, but that was to be expected given what we knew about the participating teams going into this set of holiday games. Is it karma for trying to snatch the NBA’s Christmas spotlight? Perhaps. But I don’t think this is going to change the NFL’s mind as it continues the takeover of every possible day of the week. HEADS UP: Christmas is on a Friday in 2026. With that in mind, I can envision the league doing a Christmas Eve double-header on Thursday, having a pair of games on Friday, and having another two-pack of football action on Saturday before having its regularly scheduled Sunday lineup and Monday Night Football as a wrapup. The NFL is going to see five days of football and want to take advantage. FEARLESS PREDICTION: The Bears will be placed in one of those spotlight games in that five-day stretch.
