Former VH1 Star Reveals Surprising New Career 16 Years Later

Vanessa 'Daisy' de la Hoya, 41, made such a splash on Rock of Love 2 in 2007 that VH1 gave her her own reality show, Daisy of Love, in 2009. 16 years later, she's going to college to make a big career change!

In the years since looking for love on reality TV, de la Hoya has worked as a music artist and podcast host, most recently releasing a song called "Pillbox" and hosting a podcast called Pink Cassette. However, in August 2025, she announced that she was pursuing a new job title: jouralist.

"Although I was studying for an anthropology degree, I have decided to go for one in journalism, TV, and film," she wrote after explaining that she was returning to college after a year off. However, she changed her mind again a few days later, instead choosing to pursue a career in film.

"Second day of school," she posted alongside some campus selfies showing off her new short haircut. "Had to change my major to acting because journalism was boring the poo out of me [sobbing emoji]."

Fans sent her lots of love for the next phase of her life in the comments. "Rooting for you queen, you got this," said one, while another wrote, "Congrats on school. Have fun!" A third added, "I’ve literally been a fan of her for 20 years!! She’s an icon! Thank you for always inspiring me to be myself!"

De la Hoya, the niece of boxer Oscar de la Hoya, first gained attention in the mid-2000s when she competed for the affection of Poison singer Bret Michaels on VH1 dating competition series Rock of Love 2. With her bombshell looks and edgy style, she became a fan favorite and ended the show as runner-up.

Because she was so popular, VH1 gave her a spin-off series, Daisy of Love, in 2009. She chose London as her winner despite a rocky romance on the show, but they didn't last long at all after the series ended.

What Happened to Daisy de la Hoya After 'Daisy of Love'?

Following her reality show, De la Hoya pursued music as a vocalist, initially performing with the band Seraphim Shock before branching into her own solo projects. As an actress, she appeared in some low-budget films, including Text, Hick, and Battle Born, and she appeared in another reality show called Pageant Vs. Playmate in 2011.

Besides her entertainment career, de la Hoya has been open on social media about her battle with drug addiction and recent sobriety journey. "I graduated from my drug rehabilitation outpatient program yesterday," she wrote on August 21, 2025. A few days later, she expressed her hope that she would be more successful in school following the program. "Finally able to register for school again. It's been over a year," she wrote. "Hopefully, things go better sober."
