Oatly and Korean-American artist and producer Yaeji are taking over a Ludlow Street storefront this Saturday and Sunday for Cafe Yaeji – a two-day immersive pop-up that’s equal parts cultural experience and coffee destination. And did we mention it’s free?
The pop-up is inspired by the Korean dabang, the intimate tea and coffee houses that became beloved gathering places for generations of Korean artists, writers, and music lovers. Yaeji, whose music has long drawn on her Korean-American identity to create something entirely her own, brings that spirit to life on the Lower East Side this weekend.
The centerpiece of the experience is a free Gochujang Latte created in collaboration with Yaeji herself. It’s a genuinely inventive drink that combines espresso, Oatly Barista Edition, a gochujang-vanilla base, and salted vanilla cold foam, finished with a dusting of gochugaru.
The result is sweet, savory, creamy, and subtly spicy all at once; the kind of flavor combination that sounds unexpected until you taste it and wonder why nobody thought of it sooner.
