FM: Alamein Africa Forum unites African business, financial institutions ...Egypt

EGYPT INDEPENDENT - News

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said the Alamein Africa Forum will serve as a pan-African platform bringing together the private sector, investment and financial institutions, and representatives of various productive and service sectors, to strengthen direct links between companies and markets and promote cross-border partnerships.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) President George Elombi at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, where they discussed preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the Alamein Africa Forum, scheduled to be held in El Alamein on October 2-3.

The meeting also covered preparations for the summit of the founding member states of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), scheduled for October 3, and the eighth African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, set for October 4.

The two sides also reviewed the organizational and substantive arrangements for the upcoming events.

Abdelatty said the Alamein Africa Forum is part of a series of high-level African events that Egypt will host in early October, stressing that holding the forum reflects Egypt’s commitment to advancing continental economic cooperation.

He noted that Egypt is hosting the forum pursuant to a decision adopted by the African Union Summit in February 2026 to convene the forum every two years in El Alamein.

The Minister said the events are expected to draw broad presidential participation, alongside business leaders and representatives of the public and private sectors, reflecting Egypt’s integrated approach to linking the political, economic and institutional dimensions of African cooperation.

He explained that the forum seeks to move beyond the formulation of continental priorities toward mobilizing resources, forging partnerships and translating those priorities into concrete projects and tangible outcomes.

For his part, Elombi highlighted the importance of the Alamein Africa Forum as a pan-African platform for promoting intra-African trade and investment and connecting the business community and financial institutions with priority projects and investment opportunities in the continent.

He said the forum provides an important opportunity to mobilize resources, build partnerships and support the implementation of projects that contribute to Africa’s economic integration and sustainable development.

Following the meeting, Abdelatty and Elombi held a press conference during which they reviewed the organizational and substantive preparations for the upcoming high-level African events, with particular focus on the forum, its program and key sessions.
