Former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate has been priced as short as 6/1 to be named the next Manchester United manager.
Current Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is under serious pressure following his side’s humiliating defeat against League Two side Grimsby in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Portuguese took charge of Manchester United in November last year following the sacking of Erik ten Hag with the side sat down in 13th in the Premier League table.
The 40-year-old could manage a 15th placed finish for the Red Devils last season though, the club’s lowest league position in 50 years since they were last promoted to the top flight, and were defeated in the final of the Europa League.

The 44-year-old has been out of a job since his three-year stint as Middlesbrough manager in the Championship came to an end in the summer, but the former England international does have experience managing at Old Trafford in the past.
Carrick spent more than three years as the first team’s assistant manager under the management of both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and event took charge of the side on a caretaker basis following the latter’s sacking back in 2021.
The former United man was in charge for three matches, winning away at Villarreal in the Champions League in his first before drawing at Stamford Bridge and beating Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Ex-England manager Sir Gareth Southgate could be the most brow-raising name on the odds list as he looks for his first job back in the game since leaving his role as Three Lions boss last summer following England’s defeat in the Euro 2024 final.
The 54-year-old led his national team for the best part of eight years, taking England to two Euros finals and last four and last eight appearances in the World Cup, ending a 12-year wait for England to win a major tournament knockout game and re-establishing the nation as one of the world’s best.
The former England international has only had one previous job in club management, managing Middlesbrough for three years in the Premier League before being sacked in 2009 with the side just a point off the top of the Championship table.
Current Fulham manager Marco Silva is also being priced as the joint-second favourite to take over from his compatriot Amorim.
The Portuguese is into his fifth year in charge at Craven Cottage, winning the Championship at a canter in his first season in charge and delivering three subsequent top 13 finishes in the Premier League, including a top half finish in his first season.
The 48-year-old has managed over 200 Premier League games having also been in charge at Everton, Watford and Hull prior to his current job.
