Ian Lutz from Virginia Beach, Virginia, will remain in-state to swim and study at Virginia Military Institute in the class of 2029.

Lutz graduated from Landstown High School where he swam on the varsity boys’ team. At the 2025 VHSL Class 6 State Championships, he scored 29 of Landstown’s 38 points with a 3rd-place finish in the 100 free (46.00) and a 6th in the 50 free (20.92).
Lutz swims year-round under Steve Bialarucki at Old Dominion Aquatic Club. During the 2024-25 short course season, beginning with Winter Juniors and ending at NCSA Spring Championships, he lowered his lifetime bests in the 50/100/200 free, 50/100 back, 50 breast, 50/100 fly, and 200 IM. He earned PBs in the 50/100 free at Winter Juniors with 20.83/45.39 in prelims and added 2 more in time trials, going 50.56 in the 100 back and 49.98 in the 100 fly. The fly marked a .9 drop and his first time under 50 seconds; the back was an improvement of .6. At NCSAs, he finaled in the 50 free and 50 fly. He tied his PB in the 50 free and clocked new times in the 200 free and 50 fly.
Lutz also had a successful long course season, culminating in all new times in the 50 free (23.87), 50 back (27.49), and 50/100 fly (25.02/57.32) at Greensboro Futures. He was a finalist in the 50 free, 50 back, and 50 fly.

Lutz’s times would have ranked among the top 5 on the Keydets’ roster last season in all his events. He would have made the ‘B’ finals in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, and 100 back at the 2025 AEC Championships.
