Jodie Sweetin Gets Vulnerable in Excerpt From Her New Audiobook (Exclusive Clip)

In 2009, actress and activist Jodie Sweetin released her memoir, unSweetined, which gave fans a personal look into her life as a former child star and someone passionate about her recovery following past struggles with addiction.

16 years after its original publication, the audiobook version of unSweetined is being released on August 19, 2025. Sweetin, who famously played Stephanie Tanner in Full House and its 2016 Netflix reboot Fuller House, narrated the audiobook, which features new content. In an exclusive clip, filmed while Sweetin recorded her audiobook, she shared details of a night of partying.

"I was tired of trying. Tired of controlling myself. Tired of caring. It was a Sunday night and my opinions were to sit home and get some rest for the big day I had on Monday or to go out and party and not worry about a thing. So when a friend called me and asked if I wanted to head to Hermosa Beach, I didn't hesitate," read Sweetin from her memoir. "Before I knew it, I was smoking meth and doing my hair and preparing for a big night. I drove off solo with my to-go cup filled with alcohol. I never went anywhere without my to-go cup."

She then said the situation "was a typical night of partying."

"I met some people at a bar in Hermosa Beach that played house music on Sundays from 2 pm, until around 2 am. I was friendly with the bar's owner so there's always a table waiting for me. And half-priced bottles for me, such a good customer. From the second I walked in, it was on. Some friend gave me a hug, and put ecstasy right in my mouth. That's how the night started. Simple as that," continued Sweetin while recording the excerpt from unSweetined.

In a behind-the-scenes interview, Sweetin shared how it felt to revisit her 2009 memoir.

"Revisiting my memoir from 16 years ago has been quite an interesting journey. And all I can think as I read so much of these chapters aloud is that I am so grateful for where I am right now. That my life has gotten even better than I could have possibly imagined. And yeah, I'm just really grateful," said Sweetin.

The actress then quipped that "it has been a little hard to go back and hear some of these stories that [she has] pleasantly forgotten about."

In addition, Sweetin shared what she hopes listeners of unSweetined will "take away" from the audiobook.

"What I hope listeners take away from this audiobook is that even at our darkest loneliest moments, we can come back from that. We can talk about it," said Sweetin. "We can share our stories, sometimes they're funny, sometimes they're very much not. But sharing our stories like this is really the important thing. And that's what I hope the people get out of this book, is that we all are connected by how much we share and experience with each other."

She also said while "it was really scary writing some of these things down," she is now "really glad that [she] did."
