Newcastle have agreed a deal worth £40m for Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, talkSPORT understands.
Villa have reluctantly agreed to sell academy graduate Ramsey to help stay on the right side of UEFA FFP rules.
The 24-year-old is ready to leave for Newcastle, who have qualified for this season’s Champions League, after rejecting interest from West Ham earlier this summer.
talkSPORT understands Newcastle also expect to complete a deal for Yoane Wissa before the end of the window after missing out on numerous targets, including Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro.
Brentford are thought to want around £40m, having already rejected two bids from the Magpies.
Meanwhile, star striker Alexander Isak has made himself unavailable for the club after being denied a £110m move to Liverpool.
Ramsey joined Villa’s academy aged six before progressing into the first-team.
However, he has seen his opportunities for regular game time diminish in recent seasons.
Despite making 29 Premier League appearances last season, he only completed the full 90 minutes twice.
The former England under-21 international also chipped in with four goals and seven assists across all competitions last term.
Ramsey has two years remaining on his contract at Villa Park but has been unable to agree terms on a new deal.
Ramsey ‘will be missed’
Speaking on Wednesday, Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor said he would be disappointed to see the midfielder leave the club.

“I don’t look at him as a natural goal scorer, but I think he will be missed. One of our own, local lad.
“The way he can carry that ball and create chances for others as well, he’ll be a big miss and a great signing for Newcastle.”
Ramsey was not prolific during the 2024/25 Premier League season but Agbonlahor insists he remained influentialVilla host Newcastle in their opening match of the new Premier League season on Saturday.
If Ramsey completes a move to Tyneside, he would become the Magpies’ third summer signing.
German defender Malick Thiaw’s arrival was confirmed on Tuesday to add to the additions of Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale.
Eddie Howe’s side are back in the Champions League following their fifth place finish last season.
As for Villa, they will contest the Europa League having ended the campaign a place lower in sixth on goal difference.
