Taking the North, DVOA Stock Watch, DJ the Trend Setter, Important Games Before SNF, and Other Bears Bullets

To follow up the intro from Saturday’s BN Bears Bullets lead-in: My first pho experience was great. Tremendous. I’m sure I’ll like it more once I get the hang of using chop sticks.

In case you missed it: The Chicago Bears are the 2025 NFC North champs! And in doing so, they became the 20th team to put up a one-year worst-to-first turnaround in the last 23 years. Because I’m sure you’re curious, the Bears have done it three times (2005, 2018, 2025). More history: Did you know the Bears are the first team in league history to win six games that they trailed in the last two minutes? Well, now you do. Some might call it luck. I call it making up for losing so many games they had no business losing that I legitimately lost count. Can you blame me for wanting to gaslight those memories out of my memory bank? Have you snagged merch yet? If not, you can change that:

    — Bleacher Nation Bulls (@BN_Bulls) December 28, 2025 Shout out to Patrick for pushing this post across the goal line and out to the world. I loved reading his thoughts on the Bears making their worst-to-first climb. I’ve spent a lot of time in this space writing about my own experiences as a writer following this team (and I’ll share some more thoughts momentarily) over the years. So while I know that it feels good for me to be writing about an entertaining team, I’m happy for my coworkers (who weren’t around for the magical 2018 season) to experience the 2025 campaign. Nothing brings this city together like a good, competitive Bears team. Not the Bulls. Not the Blackhawks. Not the White Sox. Not even the Cubs. (Sorry Brett and Michael. Love you guys!)

If you think it has been a long time coming as a fan, imagine how guys like Cole Kmet and Jaylon Johnson feel. Those are the two longest-tenured members of the Bears. NFL Draft classmates from 2020, Kmet and Johnson were on the roster for the postseason qualifier in 2020. But Johnson didn’t play due to injury and Kmet was a second-fiddle rookie tight end behind veteran Jimmy Graham. Those guys are major contributors to a winning team for the first time in their careers. Their arcs remind me a bit of conversations I’d have with my mother about Mark Grace being on that 1998 NL WIld Card Cubs team after the lengthy playoff drought that began after the Cubs won the NL East crown in 1989. How good do you think this feels for DJ Moore? Being a part of a winning team for the first time since high school. Being part of a playoff team for the first time as a pro. Winning a division title for the first time in the NFL. DJ is checking off boxes left and right. Good for him. Plus, DJ is also a trendsetter:

    — Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) December 28, 2025 DJ Moore rocking the cheese grater head last week got a hearty laugh out of me. Seeing Bears quarterback Caleb Williams rock it while doing charity work with Cubs all-star Pete Crow-Armstrong warmed my. heart (because I love seeing guys give back to the community). But watching Ravens players rock the cheese grater head AT LAMBEAU FIELD as they laid the smackdown on the Packers in their building was wild. That is the kind of thing that will chip away at the aura of venerable Lambeau Field as an impenetrable fortress. If he plays his cards right, Derrick Henry will dine free in Chicago the next time he is in town. The star running back put up 216 rushing yards and scored four times for the Ravens against the Packers in Green Bay. Those 216 rushing yards are a single-game record for a player at Lambeau Field. Excerpts from a conversation I had last night about the cheese grater head as a troll: “On the one hand, it’s a good bit. But on the other hand, shredding cheese makes it better. So … maybe it isn’t an effective troll.” But then it was brought to my attention that shredding the cheese should be seen as breaking it up as part of a process to later devour. Now that I’ve gotten that straightened out, I can fully enjoy the bit. Jahdae Walker celebrates after the Bears defeat the Packers at Soldier Field. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images Just because the Bears have clinched a playoff spot and a division crown, it doesn’t mean there isn’t anything on the line today. For starters, that Seahawks-Panthers game will have Chicago football fans rooting for a Carolina upset. A Seattle loss plus a Bears win tonight in San Francisco would move the Bears into the No. 1 seed heading into Week 18. Go Panthers! In the afternoon window, a Buffalo Bills win against the Philadelphia Eagles would ensure the Bears would finish no worse than the No. 2 seed. As someone who enjoys chicken wings and people crashing through tables treating a tailgate parking lot like it was the ECW Arena, I have an affinity for the Bills. Plus, their fans were nice to me (and some other Bears fans) during the Brian Urlacher Hall of Fame induction weekend. Go Bills! Looking into my crystal ball: The No. 2 seed projects to face a Packers team that does not look like the world-beaters they were early in the season. Meanwhile, the forecast for No. 3 seed would be a matchup with a 49ers or Rams team that will have at least 11 wins going into wild-card weekend. In other words, the Bears should win out and do whatever is necessary to land the No. 1 or 2 seed. Here is the rest of your Sunday slate:

    — NFL (@NFL) December 28, 2025 Oof. The folks at Awful Announcing are right to point out that the NFL’s Week 18 schedule is trending toward Dudsville, USA. Hopefully, the NFL scriptwriters are in their bag this week and give us some compelling matchups in the season finale. OUCH! Bears defensive end Austin Booker tells the Tribune he was fined $5,000 a pop for his two roughing-the-passer penalties in the team’s Week 16 win against the Green Bay Packers. Booker is a physical player who says he was “just trying to play fast” in the moment, so I don’t want to ride him hard for putting in max effort. But with that being said, this team cannot afford to be giving up free 15-yard chunks in playoff games. Booker needs to find a happy medium and thread the needle moving forward. Chicago Bears DVOA stock watch shows the arrow is pointing up:

Further note on this Bears chart… the Bears have improved in all three phases. The offense is 6th in DVOA since Week 10. The defense is 13th in DVOA since Week 10. Special teams are 6th in DVOA since Week 10.[image or embed]

    — Aaron Schatz (@aaronschatz.com) December 23, 2025 at 12:30 PM Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is going to go from playing against Deion Sanders in 2025 to squaring off against Deion’s son, Shedeur, in 2025. Feel old yet? The Indianapolis Colts are about to be the first team since the 2012 Bears to start a season 7-1 and miss the playoffs. Elsewhere in the AFC South, the Houston Texans have gone from starting the year with an 0-3 record to making the playoffs. It’s almost as if that “it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish” cliché is rooted in truth.
