NCAA Division III Champion Bengisu Caymaz has announced she will transfer to Kenyon College to Virginia Tech for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. Caymaz just finished her sophomore year at Kenyon.
Caymaz arrived from Turkey in fall 2023 and made an instant impact at Kenyon. As a freshman, Caymaz swam to NCAA titles in the 500 free (4:48.65) and 1650 free (16:34.57). She also was 4th in the 200 free in a 1:49.97. The Kenyon women captured the 2024 Division III NCAA title with 448 points, just 18 more than Denison.
This past season, Caymaz finished as NCAA runner up in the 500 free (4:46.67) and 1650 free (16:28.38), finishing behind Bowdoin’s Natalie Garre in both events. Caymaz was also 9th in the 200 free. The Kenyon women finished 3rd overall at 2025 NCAAs.
Caymaz’s Best SCY Times:
200 free: 1:49.16 500 free: 4:46.67 1650 free: 16:28.38The Virginia Tech women finished 9th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships. Backstrokers Carmen Weiler Sastre and Emma Atkinson led the way. Atkinson just finished her 5th year while Weiler Sastre just finished her junior year.
Based on her best times, Caymaz has the potential to make an immediate impact at the conference level. Her best time in the 1650 free would have been 16th this past year while her 500 free would have made the ‘C’ final. It took a 1:46.56 to final in the 200 free. She would have been #2 on the roster this past season in the 1650 free only behind rising junior Kate Anderson.
Caymaz is the second Division III distance swimmer to announced their transfer from the Division III level to Division I. Garre from Bowdoin has already announced she will transfer to Brown for this fall.
