VA LC Senior Championships
July 17-20, 2025 LCM (50m), Prelims/Finals Hampton Virginia Aquaplex, Hampton, VA Meet Packet Results on Meet Mobile “2025 VA LC Senior Champs”Incoming Virginia Freshman Madi Mintenko won three events, while rising Sophomores Bailey Hartman and Charlotte Wilson each won two more, as the Cavalier women made a strong impression at the Virginia Senior Championships in Hampton, Virginia.
Mintenko came into the meet ranked as the number 4 recruit in SwimSwam’s re-rank of the high school class of 2025, having recently finaled at U.S. Nationals in early June, and declined a spot on the U.S. Junior Worlds team. Swimming unattached, Mintenko got the chance to impress her future Cavalier coaches and teammates. She was able to do just that, winning in three of her five events: the 100, 200, and 400 free.
While Mintenko was unable to set any new personal bests, she was very close in many of her events. She came within a second of her best time in both the 100 and the 200, touching first with a time of 55.65 and a 1:58.80, respectively. In the 50 freestyle, an event where she finished 2nd, she lost to recent UVA transfer Lawson Ficken by .12, and missed out on her own best time of 25.75 by two tenths.
Mintenko has been one of the more consistent swimmers over the last two years, most notably in the 100 and 200 free. Since cracking the 56 barrier in the 100 free at the 2023 U.S. Nationals, she has had 22 swims of 55 or better, including three 54s, two of which were at U.S. Nationals in June. The 2023 Nationals was also where she broke 2:00 for the first time in the 200 free, a feat which she has now accomplished 20 times. She remains just .03 from cracking the 1:58 mark, and has been 1:58.0 twice.
Just behind Mintenko in the 100 and 200 free was sophomore freestyle and butterfly specialist Bailey Hartman. Despite swimming just four events, Hartman made the most of them with two victories in the 100 (59.80) and 200 fly (2:12.52), and the pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 (56.27) and 200 free (2:02.57). Her 200 fly time was her fastest swim in that event since 2023, and two seconds off her best time of 2:10.58, set back at the 2022 Junior Pan Pacs.
Backstroker Charlotte Wilson also swam four events, and was able to take the win in both the 50 (29.21) and 100 back (1:01.22). Her 100 time was just .23 off what she went at U.S. Nationals two months ago, where she finished 18th, her highest finish of the meet.
With many Cavaliers swimming just a handful of races, fellow ACC commit Emerson Callis was able to take high point honors on the women’s side. Callis took the victory in the 200 IM (2:17.12), and had six additional swims in a championship final throughout the meet. She will have another year to build upon her strong resume before joining NC State next fall. Virginia Tech’s Brendan Whitfield won all four of his events at the Hampton Aquaplex, which included a blistering 22.08 in the 50 free, a top-10 time among Americans this year.
