I still think the league and its television partners missed a golden opportunity to put the Bears against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. But maybe that will turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Saying that the bye week will be well-timed in September counts as a prediction, right?
Win vs. Saints – I thought the Bears did well when given extended rest and time to game plan, so I see this team getting right out of the bye. Win at Lions – Ben’s first win against Dan Campbell comes on Thanksgiving. A Turkey Day win in the building that set the wheels in motion for Johnson to end up in Chicago in the first place closes the portal to the bad place. When this win puts this universe back on the good timeline, you’ll want to thank Caleb Williams and friends. Win vs. Jacksonville Jaguars – Remember when Liam Coen talked about the media’s adoration of the Bears’ quarterback? Chicago’s QB1 moves to 2-0 against fellow No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence, as Johnson gets a win against a coach who finished ahead of him in the NFL’s Coach of the Year voting. Loss at Dolphins – Death, taxes, and the Bears losing an inexplicable game. Those are life’s three guarantees. Win at Bills – DJ Moore stuffs the stat sheet, but the Bears get the win. Loss vs. Packers – The Packers ruining Christmas would be on brand for a franchise that has a knack for ruining the vibe with its mere presence. They’re the football equivalent of the family member who puts raisins in their potato salad and brings it to Christmas dinner. Loss vs. Lions – One last bit of adversity for Chicago’s football team. Back-to-back late-season losses would put the idea of finishing strong in Week 18 back into focus. Win at Vikings – The Bears should’ve swept the Vikings last year. Cowboys, Lions, Bucs, and Rams in the NFC. Bills, Ravens, Texans, Chargers in the AFC. Predicting wild card teams. Seahawks, Bears, and Packers come out of the NFC. I think teams like the Saints, Eagles, and Niners will also be in the wild-card hunt, pushing the NFC pack. Meanwhile, I’ve got the Patriots, Broncos, and Chiefs out of the AFC. I can see the Bengals and Jaguars in the hunt on the AFC side of the bracket. The matchup I want to see in Super Bowl LXI: Bears vs. Bills. The matchup I think we’ll see in Super Bowl LXI: Rams vs. Patriots. The matchup I think the NFL wants to see in Super Bowl LXI: Rams vs. Chiefs. The matchup I don’t want to see in Super Bowl LXI: Any matchup involving the Packers, Vikings, or Lions. A fearless prediction that I think we can take to the bank: Aaron Rodgers is going to be annoying to the umpteenth degree in what he says will be his final season. He said that the 2025 season would be his last, too, so I don’t trust that guy in the slightest.
