It’s Super Bowl or bust for Dak Prescott.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback, who is entering his 10th year in the NFL, is yet to win a ring with ‘America’s Team’.
In fact, the $10billion franchise haven’t lifted the Lombardi Trophy since the 1995 season, when they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.
The Cowboys are yet to make it back to the big game in the three decades that have followed, but every summer, expectations are set high.
And this year is no different.
“Super Bowl champions,” Pro Bowl guard Tyler Smith said as the team arrived in Oxnard, California, to begin training camp this week.
“That’s always the expectation.”
Prescott, the NFL’s highest-paid quarterback, agrees.
Speaking after Thursday’s open practice, he sent a warning to the Cowboys locker room as he laid out hopes for the season.
“Hell yeah,” Prescott said, when asked if the goal was to win the Super Bowl.
“If (Smith) doesn’t believe it, or anybody in that locker room doesn’t believe it, then I would ask them to get out.
“And (Brian Schottenheimer) said it day one when we showed up.
Prescott and Schottenheimer have set the Cowboys lofty goals for 2025Getty“If you don’t want to win the Super Bowl, don’t think we can win a Super Bowl, then don’t come to Oxnard. You’re in the wrong place.”
The message from Prescott is clear — if you don’t believe, you’re not welcome.
Javonte Williams touted for surprise release
And while he has thrown down the gauntlet, one of his new teammates has been labeled as a ‘shock cut candidate’ before taking a single snap in a Cowboys uniform.
Running back Javonte Williams arrived in Dallas on a one-year, $3.5m contract ahead of the new season.
He joins a room that has been completely overhauled in the offseason, after a poor 2024 and the departure of leading rusher Rico Dowdle.
Fellow veteran Miles Sanders also arrived in free agency, while Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah were picked up in the 2025 draft.
Williams only arrived in Dallas this year but has been labeled a shock cut candidateGettyDeuce Vaughn has also returned to Dallas to complete the backfield logjam.
While Williams would have had hopes of quickly establishing himself as RB1, he has been touted as a potential odd man out by Pro Football Network.
“For what it’s worth, I anticipate Javonte Williams will be the starting running back for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1,” PFSN wrote.
“However, that says more about the state of their running back room than it says about Williams in particular. Williams has averaged less than four yards per carry in each of his last two seasons.
“The Cowboys have three intriguing young backs on their roster in Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah and Deuce Vaughn. They also signed Miles Sanders this offseason.
“Williams should be the favorite, but if a couple of other backs get hot, he could be a surprise cut candidate.”
It’s certainly possible that Williams — or one of the other four RBs — might not make it to Week 1.
Dallas coach confirms all his RBs will get their chance in camp
But they will all be assessed in training camp, and head coach Schottenheimer has insisted each will get their chance on the practice field.

“I think they’ll all get a fair shot,” he said, when asked who the front runner is.
“They’ll all get reps, but I will say again — of the two veteran guys, they’re very different.
“Javonte looks great, Miles looks great. We’re excited about Jaydon. And of course, there’s Deuce.”
While much of the Cowboys offense will lean on Prescott and the weapons he can throw to, everyone will have to play their part if the QB is to lead Dallas to the Super Bowl and fulfil the goal that has been set for 2025.
The Cowboys will need more from their running game to fulfil Super Bowl hopesBut just making it through training camp without getting cut would be a good start for some.
