Six Flags to permanently shut down two amusement parks – the final day of operation confirmed and it’s just weeks away

SIX Flags bosses are in the process of closing down two of its parks in a blow to revelers. 

And, one of the park’s days are numbered – with the shutdown coming in just weeks.

    Six Flags chiefs are closing down a location in Maryland and one in California.

    The Six Flags America park, which has been known by its current title since 1999, will close at the end of the season on November 2.

    Theme park execs are also closing down the Hurricane Harbor water park in Maryland.

    The Six Flags park in Bowie has been coined the thrill capital of the DC area.

    More than 70 workers will be impacted when the park closes.

    Revelers can go on rides such as the Batwing Coaster, The Shark Attack Hammerhead, and coasters such as Roar and The Joker’s Jinx.

    And, news of the theme park’s closure has left some fans devastated.

    “I have so many amazing memories,” Danielle Marie Hale posted online.

    “I am thankful for the times I had. Thank you for those memories.”

    “That place was the beginning of my American dream,” reveler Alena Horuzheva said.

    Others branded the theme park’s pending shutdown a “shame” as they rued bosses decisions.

    When the Six Flags park closes, the brand will no longer have a presence in Maryland.

    The second Six Flags theme park closing is in Santa Clara, California.

    California’s Great America amusement park will shut its doors at the end of the 2027 season.

    And, execs revealed why the two theme parks are closing down.

    “Those are parks that are very low on the ranking of margins,” Brian Witherow, the company’s chief financial officer, told People. 

    Witherow warned that the park could close as its lease is due to expire.

    The lease will run out on June 30, 2028.

    Guests have been flooding into California’s Great America park since 1976.

    When the park was first opened, it was known as Marriott’s Great America.

    Theme park fans in California will still be able to go to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, and Hurricane Harbor in Concord and Valencia.

    Six Flags bosses operate the Knott’s Berry Farm parks in Buena Park. 

    The brand has a presence in more than a dozen states across the US, and has theme parks in Canada and Mexico.
