CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Three people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon involving a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police cruiser in Ballantyne, and new video from the scene, provided by QCN viewer Garrett Arner, is shedding light on the collision.
The accident happened around 4:22 p.m. Thursday, July 10, near the intersection of Johnston Road and Brixham Hill Avenue, near the Ballantyne Bowl.
CMPD said the crash involved three vehicles: a Tesla, a marked CMPD vehicle, and a Kia Soul. When additional CMPD officers arrived at the scene, they found all three vehicles damaged.
The Tesla and CMPD cruiser took the brunt of the impact.
Several cars were involved in the accident near the Ballantyne Bowl on Thursday, July 10According to CMPD investigators, the driver of the Tesla was heading south on Johnston Road when they apparently lost control, crossed over the median into oncoming traffic, and slammed into the CMPD cruiser. The police vehicle was carrying two officers at the time. The Kia Soul, which only had one driver inside, was also caught in the crash.

CMPD said it’s still unknown if speed played a role in the Tesla crossing the median. This remains an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
