Deebo Samuel has a new home in Washington.
The San Francisco 49ers traded their do-everything star weapon to the Washington Commanders back in March for a fifth-round pick.
49ers franchise quarterback Brock Purdy has now revealed his thoughts on losing such an important piece of the offense in Samuel.
Purdy appeared on an episode of Bussin’ With The Boys and shared what his relationship was like with his former teammate and how he’ll have to navigate everything without Samuel moving forward.
“It sucks, dude,” Purdy said plainly.
“He’s my boy. I love Deebo. Day one, he’s always had my back and believed in me when I got in. I didn’t really know how the guys were going to take it when I did get thrown in.
“Jimmy went down, I was the last quarterback, and Deebo was nothing but just great to me, dude, building me up, and just giving me confidence.
“In games, we fed off each other’s energy and building each other up.
“It was awesome, and over the last couple of years, same thing. So, we created just a great relationship. He’s my brother.”
Purdy and Samuel thrived on the field with one another.
In the three seasons that Purdy was behind center, either handing it off to Samuel or throwing it to him, the 49ers made two NFC championship games and one Super Bowl, while also winning the NFC West twice.

General manager John Lynch knew that Purdy’s new contract was going to cost a fortune, so he fulfilled Samuel’s request by trading him to the Commanders, while freeing up cap space.
A month later, the 49ers gave Purdy a five-year $265million contract extension that included $181m guaranteed.
Part of the reason Samuel asked for a trade was that he wanted a fresh start and may have seen the writing on the wall, which was an inevitable divorce between the two parties.
However, after Samuel was traded, he sent out a message on social media, thanking the organization for the last six years.
“49ers know where I stand with them, and it’s nothing but love,” Samuel shared.
“Love [general manager] John [Lynch] and [coach] Kyle [Shanahan] to death, no bad blood, no way shape or form.
“They know I’m more than appreciative of everything they done for me as a player and a man nothing but love.”
And now Samuel is playing for another explosive young quarterback with a uniquely different skillset in Jayden Daniels.
It’s hard to imagine two different styles of quarterback play than Daniels and Purdy, but Samuel isn’t worried about fitting in with his new QB.
“I feel like the man’s been here forever,” Samuel said via Commanders.com. “He’s comfortable; he knows what’s going on; he knows where the ball needs to go. I just think he’s very smart.”
As Samuel settles into his new home in Washington, Purdy will have to learn to live life without Samuel lining up behind him or next to him.
NFL's Greatest......
Ranking the top 10......
Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?
Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?
Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and more
Tight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?
But don’t expect the San Francisco offense to all of a sudden become stale.
They still have an embarrassment of weapons, including All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, All-Pro tight end George Kittle, All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the talented Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings.
There’s no shortage of offense in San Francisco, but as Purdy alluded to, that still doesn’t make losing Samuel hurt any less.
However, such is life in the NFL.
