Virat Kohli ends social media exile to laud ‘star boy’ Shubman Gill after scripting record at Edgbaston

Former India captain Virat Kohli has lavished praise on Shubman Gill after his heroics in the IND vs ENG 2nd Test. Gill became the first to score a double century and a 150 in the same Test. His aggregate of 430 is the second most ever in a Test match, only behind Graham Gooch.

King Kohli hails star boy Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has taken to Virat Kohli’s No.4 spot like duck to water. Gill joined Virat as the only captain to score 3 centuries in their first two Tests as captain. The 25-year-old has gone about breaking records at regular ease in the India vs England series. The heights of Edgbaston reached his former teammate Kohli in London.

“Well played star boy. Rewriting history. Onwards and upwards from here. You deserve all of this,” Kohli wrote on his Instagram.

Kohli has largely stayed out of limelight since announcing his retirement from Test cricket. The 36-year-old has been inactive on social media since his retirement announcement in May. However, such was Gill’s heroics, Virat took time to lavish praise and break his hiatus.

Shubman Gill smashed 269 in the first innings and followed it up with 161 in the second innings. The 25-year-old had scored 147 in the 1st Test in the 1st test. He has 585 runs in the series, and could eye Sunil Gavaskar record of 774 runs in a series. He also has the highest tally in the first two Tests as captain, bettering Kohli, who scored 449 runs.
