The World Cup in Astana wrapped up today, and the final day of competition saw seven more triple crowns awarded and just one busted.

Overall, there were 28 crowns up for grabs in Astana, and 22 were awarded the $10,000 crown bonus, while six crowns were busted, earning those athletes a $2,500 bonus.

The athletes who won the 22 crowns have the opportunity to earn an extra $20,000 if they go on to win the same event at the Short Course World Championships in December in Beijing.

On the 3rd day, Marrit Steenbergen picked up a “double-triple” by winning triple crowns in two different events, the 100 free and 100 backstroke. She adds those crowns to her 100 IM crown and 50 back crowns from earlier this week. She also earned a “Crown Buster” bonus for stealing Siobhan Haughey‘s crown in the women’s 200 freestyle on the first day of competition.

Only one crown was “busted” on the final day of competition, and it was Carson Foster‘s 400 IM crown. Russia’s Ilia Borodin came out on top of the event, swimming 3:58.96. Foster actually finished 3rd in 4:00.85, a tenth behind Alberto Razzetti of Italy, who swam 4:00.72 for 2nd. This was Foster’s 2nd crown busted this week after Lucas Henveaux beat him in the men’s 400 freestyle.
