Tyson Fury is no stranger to making a comeback for a trilogy – having ended his retirement to beat Derek Chisora.
The 36-year-old recently called a halt to his boxing career, hanging up his gloves after a second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
But he has now decided he is willing to make a comeback yet again, making a dramatic U-turn as he has done in the past.
The ‘Gypsy King’ has declared he wants revenge against Usyk, and has even prematurely announced he intends to face him in April 2026.
Usyk is open to the showdown, but Fury will be a big underdog in his comeback clash.
That will pose a situation far different to his comebacks of the past, including his famous trilogy bout with Chisora in 2023.
Dillian Whyte was beaten by Fury in a huge 2022 title clash, and Fury had signalled it would be the end of his boxing career.
The Morecambe native insisted he wouldn’t return and had completed his goals in the sport, with the intentions of finishing undefeated.
But he was lured out of retirement just months later, by good friend and former two-time rival Chisora.
Fury had beaten ‘WAR’ twice in 2011 and 2014, but Chisora wanted a huge trilogy title shot as an early farewell for his career.
The champion was the overwhelming favourite, but it represented big commercial interest, and was enough to see him headline yet another UK stadium show.
But it ended badly for Chisora who took a real beating despite a spirited opening couple of rounds.
Fury then elected to return against Chisora, and handed him a bad beatingGetty Fury clearly had more to give in boxing and his bout with Chisora was the first of manyGettyAt the end of the seventh round, the veteran trudged gingerly to his corner and was in a bad way.
His face was severely marked and his eye practically swollen shut, but he refused to quit.
The referee eventually decided after further barrages hit the target to step in and stop the one-sided beatdown.
It was a valiant display, but Fury was simply too good on the night.
The pair were on fantastic terms at the final bell, and it was far easier night than Fury could face in the present day.
After beating Chisora, Fury faced a far sterner test against Francis Ngannou, which saw him dropped, though he recovered to win the fight.
Fury now wants to face Usyk again insteadGETTYThen 2024 brought the two-fight rivalry with Usyk, where he narrowly missed out on the chance to become undisputed champion.
Fury will likely be back in our rings soon, and it is to no great surprise given his retirement history.
