FFA students from Valley High School in Gilcrest were honored by the town after winning state titles earlier this month at the Colorado State FFA Convention in Pueblo.
Eight students in Valley High’s FFA chapter won championships during the June 2-5 convention at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Six of those students appeared June 16 at the town of Gilcrest Board of Trustees meeting where they were lauded with proclamations on Future Farmers of America Champions Day, according to a news release from the town.
Ashlyn Blackwell, Sydney Bruce, Kennedy Evans and Brittani Grauberger collaborated to win the agricultural communications team championship. The category was in the competition for the first time.
Colton Dudley, Jaretzy Holguin, Corbin Holman and Andrew Schmunk won the nursery landscape team title.
The Valley High chapter was named one of the the top 10 agricultural programs in Colorado.
The agricultural communications team members and Dudley and Schmunk were honored at the board of trustees meeting. The students were joined at the meeting by Valley High School agricultural teacher Ariana Klovstad, Valley principal Rich Dalgliesh, Weld RE-1 School District Superintendent Kimberly Bloemen and Weld County Commissioner Lynette Peppler.
“This is more than just a win — it’s a testament to the discipline and teamwork these students have demonstrated throughout the year and this day will stand as a lasting tribute to their efforts,” Gilcrest trustee Anna Garza said in the release.
