Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou is unlikely to happen in the UFC with Dana White simply not interested.
Jones was locked in negotiations for several months over a showdown with Tom Aspinall, but it has been suggested he is now retired from the UFC.
However on social media, he indicated he would be open to a showdown with heavy-handed heavyweight Francis Ngannou for the title.
‘The Predator’ left the UFC and vacated his title in 2022, negotiating a switch to the PFL where he now reigns as heavyweight champion.
And he previously suggested he would never return to the UFC, given his relationship with Dana White deteriorated after rows over fighter pay.
UFC president White has now spoken out about the new call-out from ‘Bones’, insisting that the fight is for Aspinall right now.
“Probably not,” White responded when asked about a move to bring Ngannou back to the UFC.
“It’s Aspinall’s fight. I mean, we’ve been talking to this kid about it forever and it’s his fight.
“Listen, you can’t make people fight, if Jon doesn’t want to fight, you can’t make him fight.
” We can try to make him fight, we can throw things at him that inspire him to want to fight, but we’ll figure it out.
“I don’t have Ngannou under contract and Aspinall is the guy!”
Jones is mandated to defend his UFC heavyweight title against interim champion Aspinall.
Jones and Ngannou have been linked with a blockbuster clash for yearsGettyBut ‘Bones’ has been reluctant to commit to the clash for several months, and demanded huge money to even reach the negotiating table.
It appeared a breakthrough had been reached, but Aspinall claimed Jones was retired last week and he would now look to move on.
Both Jones and Ngannou were tipped to meet in the octagon for several years, in what is viewed as the biggest commercial fight in the division.
But given they now fight under different promotions, it appeared it would be near impossible to make.
Albeit PFL chief Donn Davis even made a ‘winner takes all’ agreement offer with either the PFL or UFC banking all event revenue.
Jones appears to have a different view to White, insisting it is certainly a fight that would see him return to training.
But White would rather Aspinall get his shot at gloryNgannou’s coach Erick Nicksick recently opened the door to a UFC return.
And the American who is still under UFC contract believes ‘The Predator’ is a legacy-boosting opportunity.
He wrote: “I’m hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested, now we’re talking. That’s a real super fight.
“A clash of champions, not just hype. He held the UFC belt, I’ve defended mine for over a decade.
“Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth that’s hot right now, but two real legacies colliding.
“That’s the kind of fight that actually adds something special to my story.”
